A belief in free will touches nearly everything that human beings value. It is difficult to think about law, politics, religion, public policy, intimate relationships, morality—as well as feelings of remorse or personal achievement—without first imagining that every person is the true source of his or her thoughts and actions. And yet the facts tell us that free will is an illusion.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, because I think it encourages people to consider a new perspective that they may not have had access to.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

    The comparisons that are made.

What about Sam Harris’s performance did you like?

At first, I found his speaking style alitle hard to follow, but by the time I reached the second or third chapter, I was accustomed to it and it became clear without having to rewind and re listen. One thing I appreciated was that he wrote the book to be accessible to more people by opting for more common words instead of long, uncommon ones... I only had to pause the book maybe 3 times to look up a word.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

FREE WILL... You may beleive in it, but you may not have a choice.

    Any additional comments?

The possible new perspective is well worth the relatively low price of the book.

  • God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything

In the tradition of Bertrand Russell's Why I Am Not a Christian and Sam Harris' recent best-seller, The End of Faith, Christopher Hitchens makes the ultimate case against religion. With a close and erudite reading of the major religious texts, he documents the ways in which religion is a man-made wish, a cause of dangerous sexual repression, and a distortion of our origins in the cosmos.

Where does God Is Not Great rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Great book... But although I love Christopher Hitchens, I feel he is best either read, or listened to in a live format, and did not make a very easily followed narrator...

Would you recommend God Is Not Great to your friends? Why or why not?

I would definitely recommend the paper version of the book. But I found the audiobook hard to follow at times.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

I think the combination of his accent, the way he words things, and the fact that he was reading from a script made the experience a bit unnatural feeling for me. I think Christopher Hitchens is best listened to in his debates and interviews, or by actually reading his books.

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

There were some interesting historical accounts.

Erich von Däniken's Chariots of the Gods is a work of monumental importance---the first book to introduce the shocking theory that ancient Earth was visited by aliens. This world-famous best seller has withstood the test of time, inspiring countless books and films, including the author's own popular sequel, The Eye of the Sphinx.

Would you try another book from Erich von Daniken and/or William Dufris?

    Sure, it was entertaining enough.

What did you like best about this story?

The different ancient myths presented and how the author interprets them is very entertaining, but anecdotal.

Have you listened to any of William Dufris’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No I haven't, so I can't compare, but I didn't find the performance by any means bad. The way he accentuates and draws out the ends of certain words I could see being an annoyance to some people though.

Did Chariots of the Gods inspire you to do anything?

Maybe to consider the possibility of his claims, but it has to be taken with a grain of salt until more evidence is presented.

    Any additional comments?

    Interesting perspective nonetheless.

Discover magazine recently called Richard Dawkins "Darwin's Rottweiler" for his fierce and effective defense of evolution. Prospect magazine voted him among the top three public intellectuals in the world (along with Umberto Eco and Noam Chomsky). Now Dawkins turns his considerable intellect on religion, denouncing its faulty logic and the suffering it causes.

If you could sum up The God Delusion in three words, what would they be?

    Religion is irrational

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

I loved the switch between male and female voices, it keeps you interested and engaged. while with other books the monotone narrator can sometimes cause your to drift off, Dawkins and Wards voices are varying and compelling.

Have you listened to any of Richard Dawkins and Lalla Ward ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have, and as with the others, this one is excellent.

What’s the most interesting tidbit you’ve picked up from this book?

This book helped me to take many arguments that I already had, and turn them into much more eloquent ones.
