But when she finds letters casting doubt on her family's dark, shameful past, she realizes that peace in Midnight is a shallow façade and sinister secrets lurk beneath the surface. The romance story started getting on my nerves. It was too much angst. Move it along or move on!

Celebrated actress Scarlett Thomas never wanted fame - that was her parents' dream. Now she's ready to make big changes, but she never could have imagined how big those changes would turn out to be. Returning to the medieval Dunskirk Castle, where she filmed the Puppet War trilogy, she encounters an old Scotsman named Donell who directs her to an ancient claymore that sends her back in time to 16th-century Scotland.

It's hard to listen a male narrator do the female voices. My personal preference is a female narrator, but decided to give it a try anyway. The narrator is good, but just couldn't do the female voices in a way that was pleasing to me. I wish I had read the two books that were narrated by a male and saved my money. The other books in the series are narrated by a female who does pretty decent male voices.

Scarlett would do anything to save her unborn baby, even return to a time she never thought she'd see again. Not for a moment had she missed the constant scrutiny of a celebrity life. To reappear now, inexplicably pregnant in the eyes of the modern world would create a media circus, but Scarlett knows she can overcome any obstacles with Laird at her side and the help of new friends drawn together across time itself by the enigmatic Scotsman known as Auld Donell.

I read the book before the listening to the book. I enjoyed the book; however, I did wonder how a narrator would pull off all the characters being together in one book. Not well. First, Hugh's name for Clare has completely changed in pronunciation. Emmy is supposed to be from Memphis, but has a now Scottish accent in the book. I loved the narrator in all the other books, but it seems like she did not listen to herself or review how each character sounded before recording this book. So glad I read the Kindle version first.

It's just another day at the office for Washington Metro Police lieutenant Sam Holland when a body surfaces off the shores of the Anacostia River. But before Sam can sink her teeth into the new case, Secret Service agents seize her from the crime scene. A threat has been made against her family, but nobody will tell her anything - including the whereabouts of her husband, Vice President Nick Cappuano.

I can't decide if I like Nick and Sam. Maybe I am comparing them to Eve and Roarke. I know why Roarke loves Eve. I am not sure why Nick loves Sam. Are they in love or just in lust? They seem to have a shallow relationship. I have no problem with the plot/storyline. It is an imaginative series, not true life drama. However, Nick and Sam do whine a lot about their lives. Nick could have refused to be VP, but instead he hates the secret service, the restrictions, etc. I just not sure I like them and yes, I have read the entire series.

I was so into this book. I wanted to know the end a couple chapters into it. Why was the father-in-law so entrenched in his position? What would happen to the hero? How was it going to be resolved? I was worried about the hero. I did not like Mean Streak, so I was not thinking too highly of this book, but wow. It was worth the credit. I bought the kindle version and the audible. I will say that there were definite editing problems with the audible that I don't hear in other books. But the story was engrossing for me. All authors know that sex sells, so even Sandra Brown seems to be going that rote. In spite of that, I enjoyed the story and resolution.
