  • Medium Raw: A Bloody Valentine to the World of Food and the People Who Cook

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs)
    • By Anthony Bourdain
    • Narrated By Anthony Bourdain

In the 10 years since his classic Kitchen Confidential first alerted us to the idiosyncrasies and lurking perils of eating out, much has changed for the subculture of chefs and cooks, for the restaurant business and for Anthony Bourdain. Medium Raw explores those changes, tracking Bourdain's strange and unexpected voyage from journeyman cook to globe-traveling professional eater and drinker, and even to fatherhood. Bourdain takes no prisoners as he dissects what he's seen.

    Sparkly says: "Surprisingly tender."
    "Gets My Vote"

Anthony Bourdain for President. This man knows how to tell the truth and boy does it hurt.I do not often listen to authors who read their own books,(usually psychologists),but Mr. Bourdain is the only one who could tell his own tale so gloriously.

  • Daughter of the King: Growing Up in Gangland

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs)
    • By Sandra Lansky, William Stadiem
    • Narrated By Laural Merlington
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In this tell-all memoir, the only daughter of the man who was considered the "brains of the Mob" opens the door on her glamorous - and tragic - life. Sandi Lansky Lombardo, daughter of Mob boss Meyer Lansky, was raised in New York City in upper-class Jewish splendor and spent her childhood in the undeniable glitz of Havana and Las Vegas in Lansky's heyday in the 1940s, '50s, and '60s. She dined out with her father and his associates when she was six and was introduced to Frank Sinatra when she was 11.

What disappointed you about Daughter of the King?

Absolutely no context whatsoever unless you like shopping, moving, dining, and are into whining and complaining. Did not finish as the narrator was as bad as the book. The most grating, monotone accent ever.
No secrets "exposed"; just life with daddy and mommy, with these two words comprising the majority of the word count.

  • Night Moves: A Doc Ford Novel, Book 20

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 44 mins)
    • By Randy Wayne White
    • Narrated By George Guidall
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The stunning new thriller - the 20th Doc Ford novel - from New York Times best-selling author Randy Wayne White. Both Doc Ford and his friend Tomlinson have buried secrets. Now one of those secrets is about to come alive - with a vengeance. While trying to solve one of Florida's most profound secrets, Doc Ford is the target of a murder attempt by someone who wants to make it look like an accident. Or is the target actually Tomlinson?

Nancy says: "What happened to the lean, mean Doc Ford?"
"What happened to the lean, mean Doc Ford?"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Just loved Doc more in the early days.
Characters seem a bit disjointed( no pun intended),
and Doc doesn't seem to have the same
    joie de vivre.

If you’ve listened to books by Randy Wayne White before, how does this one compare?

    Early books the absolute best.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of George Guidall?

As much as I love George Guidal, I was shocked that the producer or even
Mr. Guidal himself, would not have taken the time to find out how some
words " down here " are actually pronounced!
For those of us who live in the area or even for those who visit,
99.9 % know how Sanibel, Boca Grande, and even the word Tarpon!,
would be pronounced by the locals, and that certainly would include Doc Ford!!
I don't assume RRW ever listened to this one or he
would have had to get out his secret box.
I am sorry, but the chronic mispronunciations ruined the book for me, and
    I could not finish listening.

  • A Conflict of Interest: A Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 33 mins)
    • By Adam Mitzner
    • Narrated By David LeDoux
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Alex Miller is a criminal defense lawyer leading the life he always imagined. At thirty-five, he is the youngest partner at New York City's most prestigious law firm, with a beautiful wife and a perfect daughter. When Alex's father suddenly passes away, Alex is introduced to Michael Ohlig, a rich and powerful man who holds an almost mythical place in his family lore. But Alex is surprised when Ohlig admits that he's in serious legal trouble, accused of crimes involving hundreds of millions of dollars.

Miss Irene says: "Excellent - Deserves More Than 5 Stars"

Give yourself the best Christmas present ever;download this book and and listen while cooking and washing all those dishes. You won't even mind that others are watching good football or the original Scrooge on TV. Cannot believe that this is Mr.Mitzner's first legal thriller. He is a natural at this game and you will not be disappointed! Narration is equally as fine.

  • The Glass Rainbow: A Dave Robicheaux Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (15 hrs and 7 mins)
    • By James Lee Burke
    • Narrated By Will Patton

Why we think it’s a great listen: When it comes to author/narrator pairings, nobody tops James Lee Burke and Will Patton in the Robicheaux thrillers. Beloved Burke hero Detective Dave Robicheaux here returns to New Iberia to solve a series of grisly murders. Seven young women in neighboring Jefferson Davis Parish have been brutally murdered. While the crimes have all the telltale signs of a serial killer, the death of Bernadette Latiolais, a high-school honor student, doesn’t fit.

    Gardner says: "Best Yet... Almost"
    "Nothing Could Be Finer..."

Than to listen to Mr. Carolina,Will Patton, read James Lee Burke.Heaven On Earth.Amen.

America is a barren landscape of smoldering ashes, devoid of life except for those people still struggling to scratch out some type of existence. Still, they persevere, and their relationship comes to represent goodness in a world of utter devastation.
