"End of the World" books are my favorite, and this book was by far one of my favorites. Most people assume its because I like grim situations but it's really because human nature is at it's best in an apocalypse. Stories about the best of human kind are best told with the back drop of the end of days....
This book takes place across decades....it was an easy listen, with Chris Patton switching between accents and characters with ease. The characters had such depth throughout the book and I found myself really routing for my favorites. I usually listen to books while driving or doing chores so I can focus on what I hear. This book led me to do day after day of out of the ordinary chores so I could keep listening!!!!!!!!!!!!! While I don't know if world wide flooding is in the earth's future, I do believe that Baxter's predictions of human behavior are dead on. For other "end of the world" fans this one was a must read!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been a die hard Christopher Rice fan since his first book. I think some people find him and his work to be polarizing....Some think his writing is amazing, some think he is a hack-only published because of his mother's fame. I think that Rice is a writer in his own right.I like that Christopher Rice writes about gay plots and not just the usual coming out story which floods the market. It's important to make the gay themes a part of the story but not the whole story. I typically can figure out an ending within fifty pages and Christopher Rice can create a twist that will make your head spin!
This book was a bit different from his other books, as the main character was a female and there are world wide topics and breadth.
My only issue with a Christopher Rice book is he always starts his stories slow and they are hard to get into. When reading his books it takes me a couple tires to focus and get into it. Listening to his work on Audible made it easy to get right into the thick of things without stopping and starting like usual.
I really did like this book, though the writing was confused at times (at times previously mentioned facts were ignored or forgotten). The premise was really good and I liked that super heroes JUST WERE...nothing needed to be explained, it just was part of the world of the book. I did like the main characters inner thoughts as he explores his world....they one hundred percent made me laugh out loud or chuckle because they were so believable and funny....worth listening to, even if it is just a bit silly.
Some aspects of the ending were predictable....but there were some honest to goodness surprises at the end!!
No, the author is dead......
