I was so annoyed by this book. The lead character was a tough as nails girl who had no feminine side at all, unless it was to take advantage of some nitwit man who, of course, has no control over her wiles. The men in this story are wimps compared to her and written as subjects to her will. One male character was written as a ruthless drug dealer who is mush when it comes to his unbelievable heart driven love for her that seems to be based on the fact she can kill better than he can. This story was ridiculous on more levels than that though. I guess a woman who wants a break from her romance novels and an entry into an action book might get it. Not me.

I liked this one quite a bit and will be checking out more in this series. I held off purchasing this for a while thinking maybe it was some posessed snowman or something, it wasn't and I feel silly. Ive read reviews about the gore and language and held off for that, it's nothing more than you should expect when reading about a serial killer.

All in all, I am glad I finally made this purchase and will listen to more from Nesbo.

One question, did the name Harry Hole get lost in translation or something? I mean, really, Harry Hole?!

This was a fun freebie that I am glad I listened to. The main character and his "companions" are a very interesting bunch, and quite amusing.

The narrator did a very good job with this challenging project. He added to the experience quite a bit.

The length was such that it left me wanting more. So, bring on the series!

I've read a few Reacher novels, but this one stood out as being particularly good.

I am somewhat fascinated with the skills and mindset of a military trained sniper. This book delvs into that field. Would a soldier with this training use it on his own, especially if he wasn't able to in a military operation?

Reacher gets involved in an investigation that has overwhelming evidence against the suspect in custody, and he wants to make sure he gets put away for good. The suspect gets beaten in prison to the point of a coma and then amnesia, so he cant defend himself. Questions and irregularities that only Reacher can see are too much to ignore though.

It's a good investigative storyline that kept me interested, and he also kicks some ass.

I look forward to the movie...but 5'5" Cruise as 6'5" Reacher sounds like a stretch...We'll see.

I love the John Corey series (minus The Lion).
He gets into a fictional cold case based on a real plane crash with a lot of unanswered questions. Very interesting investigation. John Corey is entertaining enough by himself, and of course a brilliant detective.
I wasn't necessarily interested in the publisher summary of the book before choosing it, but I needed me some John Corey. Turned out I really liked it, and the fictional take on a real incident made it very intriguing.
Especially if you're a fan of the series get it!

Sure, it may be a little over the top, but it's a cool story and a cool character. The world's top assassin is on the run. He is a mystery to most, legend to others, feared by all. The hit-man with a conscience. He kills people, but they were all bad.
Really, this is worth it. However, it is probably the best in the series, don't wish too hard for sequels as good.

The Gray Man, the first book was much better. This one was kind of predictable and not memorable. The evil, sadistic drug lord and his motivation for risking his entire operation was just stupid, as his counselor kept trying to tell him.
One part that got me (light spoiler alert) was that he fornicates with a girl that is constantly praying and encouraging him to be more spiritual, and after she sleeps with him she decides to be a nun!
Big, tough, secret assassin who saves the poor family from the drug lord, and who works alone.
The narration was fine, the story was fine, just not memorable.

Pendergast is definitely one of the most interesting and enthralling fictional detectives out there. He is almost as interesting as the story itself. However I didn't find any other characters interesting at all. The setting and the plot were very engrossing however. Set in modern day New York, the mystery stems from the early days of the city. Before movies and television where you can see the world from your sofa, there were cabinets of curiosities to entertain you with bizarre collections from all over the world. (See Ripley's Believe It Or Not! museums)
Unearthed from the demolition of a century old building for new development is a mass grave that reveals a serial killing spree from the 1800's. The cause of death is very disturbing and is soon mimicked in the present day city.
A good listen, Auberjenois is very good. It's worth it.

A classic series for a reason! The narrator is fantastic! The character of Holmes is enthralling. I now recognize how often modern fictional detectives mimic Sherlock's observation skills. I also like the short length of these mysteries, I often listen to one or two between other books to break it up a little. Listen and realize why these stories have lasted and been duplicated for over a hundred years!

This is not your typical novel read as a story, but more like documenting events in history. If you liked Goodfellas, of course you did, you will love this. Very interesting insight on many different viewpoints involved in the drug dealing business, from the kingpin to their dealers, hitmen, prostitutes, families, and the agents looking to bring them down.

The narrator deserves his own paragraph in this review. Ray Porter was incredible. Not overly dramatic as Scott Brick can be, I enjoy him too but he would have exhausted me reading this book. Ray Porter was perfect, he gave distinct and reasonable voices to many characters no matter their ethnicity, age, station in life, or their gender. There were so many, but because of his performance I was able to recognize and even picture them throughout the book. It was relatively long, over 20 hrs, but I could have listened and enjoyed for hours more.
