  • The Burnt House

A small commuter plane carrying 47 passengers crashes into an apartment building, and LAPD Lieutenant Peter Decker works overtime to calm rampant fears. But a grisly mystery lives inside the plane's wreckage: the unidentified bodies of four extra travelers. And there is no sign of an airline employee who was supposedly on the catastrophic flight.

Audiophile says: "Recommended for Faye Kellerman Fans"
    "Rina and Peter..."
    Overall

Always glad to see another title from this Kellerman. Her characters have become my friends. The plots are common and embraceable; a parallel universe right next door.

I made the purchase reluctantly, and only because of the author; I'm disappointed whenever I see this choice of narrator. I'm forced to constantly make the effort to overlook his delivery. His vocal characterizations are simply not believable and border on what seems to be subdued hystrionics.

New York Times best-selling author Diana Gabaldon enchanted scores of fans with Outlander, her electrifying historical saga set in 18th-century Scotland. Now this sequel sweeps listeners back into the past as Claire relates more of her perilous sojourn there with her Scottish warrior husband, James Fraser. Twenty years after her strange journey back in time, Claire has returned to Scotland with her daughter, determined to share with her the secret she has harbored since her time travel.

Daniel says: "Finally! The unabridged version is here!"
    "No Ambien needed here."
    Overall

Unlike the five star "Outlander", the first installment of the series, this second book was extremely disappointing. Not much in the way of new material. Seemed to me the author simply needed to meet a deadline, and killed her audience doing it. This is the perfect Rx for sleep.

  • Lying in Wait: J. P. Beaumont Series, Book 12

A shadow from J. P. Beaumont's past shows up after 30 years, an ex-girlfriend whose husband has been brutally murdered.

Siri-Mette Amble says: "Yet another excellent book from J.A. Jance"
    "Lying In Wait"
    Overall

As usual, JA Jance has given us another enjoyable, easy read. The narrator would do well to research the speech inflections of the character's setting. A decidedly Southwest intonation coming from a native resident of the Pacific Northwest is annoying and unbelievable.
