This book ranks pretty close to the top. I loved the story!
I liked the twists & turns. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen, most of the time I was wrong!
I loved his voice. He brought a calmness that made me want to just sit back & keep listening.
Hard to say. I think each of the main characters were equally strong. I think I liked Charlie. He was a true friend.
Listen all the way to the end. Don't stop because you "just knows what happens". Great book!
Absolutely! There is so much there. So many truths to pick up you just can't get it all on one listen.
For me it was how the author addresses the "anointing" or the "covering" of God. Although I am familiar with it, he put it in a far different form that really opened my eyes.
Benaiah. He is a personal favorite of mine from the Bible and one of the reasons I got the book.
Not really. It was just solid all the way. But if the book is no good or just "ok", I don't listen to it again. I just finished book 2 & can't wait to start again.
I don't think I could watch the movie but I think the author did a good job of communicating the violence of war without going over the top. Let's face it, swords, arrows, spears, javelins are rather messy. I enjoyed it though.
Book 6 so it really tied a lot of things together. Also, I was REALLY glad the graphic sex scenes was GREATLY reduced!
I'm disappointed in the graphice sex scenes. It just was NOT necessary!
When Joy Came to Stay is probably in my bottom half. It was a very slow start & several times I almost gave up. Story was somewhat predictable after the slow start. Because of this, it slips down to lower ranks.
I didn't really have a favorite.
I personally didn't like the narration & probably won't get anymore of her books. There were many times the narration came across as angry when the story didn't seem to support that. The narration lowered my enjoyment of the book.
No, not at all. The beginning was very disjointed and rambling. Seemed to repeat over & over without really getting anywhere for a long time, almost like the author was having trouble getting ahold of the story and the flow.
The book wasn't "bad" just not up to the standards I have come to enjoy & expect. I would recommend it but with a caution to hang in there because it does improve. For me, there were a few one liners that meant something to me & that kept me hanging on. Not horrible but not even close to my favorite either.
Absolutely! This book made me laugh and cry. I never thought I would enjoy a book about a war but I was wrong. I really liked this book because it kept me engaged the whole time. I found myself wanting to listen all the time. I have heard "stories" about POWs and their time in POW camps. This account was horrific but opened my eyes to another culture. Worth the listen!
I have no comparison.
Not that I'm aware of.
Yes. Something near & dear to my heart happened near the end of the book. I especially enjoyed hearing his struggle and victory.
This book made me laugh and cry. At times I listened in horror & disbelief. To think that someone, anyone could survive such an ordeal amazes me. One more example of God's awesome power!
Yes, already have! I really enjoyed the plot.
I can't pick just one thing!
Her accent really made it for me. Her accent put me right there with every word.
There were several points when I was really moved. I think each one was probably based in an act of real courage to go against the norm for that location and time.
I am so glad I saw the movie AFTER listening to the book. The book is just so much better at character development than the movie. Listening to the book made want to just settle back on a porch swing and watch it play out. Really enjoyed this book!
The author's interpretation of the scriptures.
In a category all by itself! I have read or listened to the entire series & loved every one!
I like his voice & style.
Too many hours to listen in one sitting but was definately near the top.
For me it was the multiple character developments and the many twists & turns.
The attention to detail and the gentle yet powereful challenge to my faith!
Hard to pick just one.
Book one. Couldn't wait for book two & then I heard about book 3. This author is fantastic! Her attention to detail and ability to take the scripture and present it such a way that draws you back to God is refreshing. I also liked that her work is clean, no cussing, etc.
YES! I have already listened twice and could listen again. This book so touched my heart on so many levels.
For me there were many but the concept was the same for each. That concept was asking, listening, obeying. Asking God for His guidance, listening to His response and then obeying against all odds.
The 2 main characters were my favorite equally. Hosea for how he represented / reflected God's love and Angel for how she represented / reflected our response to God's love.
Too many to recount here!
Absolutely loved this book! It may be my favorite from this author!
Not familar with his work other than this book.
Probably not. Don't like the language used.
Entertainment factor MAYBE, on a good day!
I really didn't like the cussing & the constant crude sexual reference. Story could have been told without all that.
