Prebble's reading is spot on.
Prebble's nuanced performance of the main character.
This is a thoughtful classic. If you are looking for plot, suspence, action look elsewhere.
If you are looking for something thoughtful, sensible, well thought out and executed. Look elswhere. This is awful. None of it rings true.
Enright manages to write absorbing children's stories without dragging in the usual conflicts and plot devices which fill up and drag down most children's literature. She fills her stories with the stuff of real childhood -- imagined or true -- and kids eat it up. Her stories have been family favorites for years.
This is a love story with a dreamy magical quality.
Jim Dale is awesome. This is no exception. I doubt I would have liked this nearly as much if I had read it to myself.
Depp's reading of the beginning and end of this was quite enjoyable. Joe Hurley's reading of the bulk of it did wear me down at times.
This is fun, but the endless drug stories may wear thin for some.
Whately is a good reader. Having one of the stars of the TV series read these stories gives it a special quality.
These books are fun for the family. My 11 yo son loves them. The readings are expertly done.
Would recommend the whole series to any child or family.
Great voices for the characters.
Get the whole series.
Frank Langella reads his own work expertly. I doubt I would have enjoyed this as much if I read it myself.
There are funny, interesting, absorbing chapters in this well written series of observations of famous people Langella has met or known over his long career. This may be too gossipy for some but it is well written, thoughtful and expertly performed. Some very funny and very sad recollections.
Another fun reading for my 12 yo son who loves this series. David Pittu is always a reliable reader with good voice characterizations.
