"Some interesting nuggets of wisdom and perspective"
Yes.
No, this is my first.
:-))) Don't think that applies to this one.
Good, not great.
"It's friggin' "War and Peace" people . . ."
So there's no question the content is fantastic! Tolstoy is extremely insightful, not just for major events but more importantly, for many of the little moments of life we all live through yet don't necessarily analyses. Wonderful stuff!
But the real thrill here is the narrator, Neville Jason - he's just great and adds so much to this classic. He brings it to life with his intonations. laughter and exclamations. And this takes away the intimidation factor that often plagues readers.
If you always wanted to read W&P but put it off for whatever reason - now's the time. This version will help you enjoy it.
Fantastico!
"Fantastic!"
Great, great story and Hoffman is a superb narrator. Putting his great intonations in all the right spots you can tell this novel and it's author are very important to him.
I loved it!
"Amazing!"
Probably. Anne Hathaway does an unbelievable job narrating. I have much added respect for her skills as a narrator and actor.
She did a particularly great job with the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion!
Believe it or not, I think the film may have actually been an improvement on the novel. A rare happening.
With that said, Hathaway does such a great job narrating that it's definitely worth listening to on Audible. I was smiling and laughing the whole time!
"Unbelievable!!!"
Definitely one of the best audiobooks I've ever listened to! The narrator does a fabulous job with all the dialects. It really made the book come alive.
I know it might be sacrilegious to criticize Mark Twain . . . but I think he could have used a better editor in a few instances. Setting Jim free from the distant family is a case in point.
But overall, the listening experience was still brillant! It makes me want to listen to the other "Signature Performances".
"Great Stuff!!"
Yes! Timeless and counter-intuitive wisdom from an American Treasure.
The title essay was very interesting. I had never considered joke telling in this way.
