There are so many books in this series and so many good reviews that I thought getting this book was a no-brainer, but I couldn't get through more than an hour of this. I just couldn't get into it at all!
This really is a Great Series and this is the best book so far. The last few chapters blew my mind. What a great magic system!!! Every book gets better and better. I highly recommend listening to this!
Stop here if you're a fan of Sanderson and Jorden. This auther is young and the book could use a better editor, but the author has the potential to be a great epic writer. I love the novel magic system and the way the second half of the story flowed. Michael Kramer brings life to the story and likely plays a part of why this story, along with the unique magic system, kept reminding me of Sanderson and Jordan.
Not what I was hoping for. To be fair, the book isn't that bad and the narration is really pretty good once I listened to it at 1.25x. It's just not a book for adults, or fans of noval magic systems.
This book is very formulaic. Take parts of Erigon, TWoT, Sanderson, Tolkien, too many others to list, plus Dune and add it all together with a pinch of David Eddings and this is what you get. I'm sorry, but there isn't anything new here. Perhaps middle-schoolers might like this series, but it's not really something that fans of epic fantasy, or adults would really enjoy. The narrator's performance was atrocious. I was only able to make it through the book by listening to it at 1.5x, because she talks so slowly. Take my advice and pass on this one. It's not worth the credit.
This book has the chance to be the beginning of a great epic fantasy series. The magic system isn't really unfolded until the second half of the book and it's quite novel. The narration is excellant and that makes it an even better listen. Definitely worth a credit.
This second book in the series is better than the first! It has the makings of a great epic series. It's definitely worth a credit. The narration is also fantastic!
Another fantastic installment. I love these books. I can't wait for the next installment!!! The narrator's narration is excellant. He's perfect for the series.
This series reminds me of The Sword of Truth series, only more formulaic and without the unrequited love. It's not a bad series, but its not great either. If you're looking for sword and sorcery and all that goes with it, then this will do. The narrator is marginal, but if you listen at 1.25 then he's not that bad.
I really liked this series all in all. I'm a Jennifer Fallon fan now. Book 1 and 3 are the best. At times I thought it reminded me of several high fantasy books (insert best sellers here) , almost to the point of plagerism, but it did have some definitely original ideas and a well thought out magic system. Sometimes the heroine is just a little too stupid and you want to tell her not to do something, but she does; however it didn't make me want to stop listening. The narration was excellent. I hope to listen to listen to her naration again some day
