When marine engineer and very part-time spook Tom Dugan becomes collateral damage in the War on Terror, he's not about to take it lying down. Falsely implicated in a hijacking, he's offered a chance to clear himself by helping the CIA snare their real prey, Dugan's best friend, London ship owner Alex Kairouz. Reluctantly, Dugan agrees to go undercover in Alex's company, despite doubts about his friend's guilt. Once undercover, Dugan's steadfast refusal to accept Alex's guilt puts him at odds not only with his CIA superiors, but also with a beautiful British agent with whom he's romantically involved.

Would you consider the audio edition of Deadly Straits to be better than the print version?

I don't consider it better but enjoyed through a different medium and it was thoroughly enjoyable.

What did you like best about this story?

The narration was well done in bringing the great story, plot and character development to life. It is highly recommended and a very pleasurable story to be absorbed in!

Have you listened to any of Todd Haberkorn’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No this is my first but I would gladly listen to other narrations by him.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

By the time I listened to the first few chapters I dearly wanted to continue, however, I did not have the time so I enjoyed it over a few days. Each time I was left itching to listen to more.

    Any additional comments?

Do yourself a favour and don't just read it but listen to the story as well, it is a fantastic experience to be taken in by a great writer and his very accomplished narrator. Can't wait for the next instalments by both parties! Thanks for the enjoyable time.

An original short story about Jack Reacher, available exclusively in digital format (ebook and audio), following the success of last year's "Second Son". Early in his military career, Jack Reacher is ordered undercover in Washington, to discover which one of four women, all staff officers on fast track careers, is leaking secrets. The suggested method: get close to each in turn. The obvious problem: the most receptive will be the guilty one, with an agenda of her own - to kill the investigation ... and the investigator.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would recommend it if they liked a short story, however, I felt ripped off as I became engaged with the book and the story and the excellent narration, but then the book finished before I knew it! Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Would you be willing to try another book from Lee Child? Why or why not?

I would read another book by Lee Child and have, but not another short story, because the novel gives you a chance to enter into the bigger story, while the short story gets you in and pulls the rug from under you.

Have you listened to any of Kerry Shale’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. An outstanding narrator and well worth listening to future stories narrated by this narrator.

Did Deep Down inspire you to do anything?

Find a full novel by Lee Child.

    Any additional comments?

Lee Child in conjunction with Kerry Shale will taunt you by getting you into the short story. They get you excited and engaged in the story and then bring you crashing down as you realise the story has ended and you need to find another novel or audiobook! Hopefully it was as good as this story before the rug was ripped from under me!

    Story
What made the experience of listening to Damn Few the most enjoyable?

This was a very different book and Audiobook because the author narrated it. This made the flow of text and narration very natural. As a result I soon became hooked. Denver has a very unique way of prefacing thoughts and topics and then entering into it in depth and making his point. It was very effective and engaging and his authority and genuine passion for his work and service was obvious and came through clearly in the narration.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the fact that Denver is the real deal and laid out what he could in a genuine way which was honest and matter of fact but indicated his incredible professionalism, his passion for his military career, his family, his friends and his genuine desire to write a book and narrate it to tell the truth about what he does and avoid the hype, but to do so with a sensitive touch that in the end only did himself and the Seals and his friends and family proud.

Have you listened to any of Rorke Denver’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but I thoroughly enjoyed his narration of his own book which in itself is outstanding.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book drew on a gammit of emotions and evoked so much thought. I was not prepared for the diverse emotions it would evoke.

    Any additional comments?

This book is not just another Seal Book. It is an outstanding contribution to the topics of Seals, service, professionalism, sacrifice and the support that a Warrior needs to do such a job. I was thankful and grateful to hear of the role that family and friends have in supporting these extraordinary service personnel to do their job. It is a vocation and calling and one that should not be taken lightly and is not. This is an extraordinary record of Specil Ops Warfare in a very unique time in our world and political history. Special Operators and other Units of the services have all made very unique contributions that can only fully be measured by future eventualities that are still to come to fruition, despite some positive results and some negative ones as well!

As Tom Dugan and Alex Kairouz, his partner and best friend, struggle to ransom their ship and crew from murderous Somali pirates, things take a turn for the worse. A US Navy contracted tanker with a full load of jet fuel is also hijacked, not by garden variety pirates, but by terrorists with links to Al Qaeda, changing the playing field completely. With a possible link between piracy and terrorism now in play, the US and British governments order the halt of all negotiations for captive ships, and enraged pirates ratchet up the mistreatment of the captive crews.

If you could sum up Deadly Coast in three words, what would they be?

Gripping, Thrilling and Intriguing are three words I would use to describe my listening experience of Deadly Coast.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

R.E. McDermott is outstanding at crafting a very good story that grabs your attention and has you hanging on as he develops his characters. McDermott feeds you with a diet of twists, turns and action, that draws you in until you are struggling to do anything else but listen to the story. I have read this book and the audiobook only enhanced the story. the plot keeps delivering all the way through the book. A clever author at work.

What about Todd Haberkorn’s performance did you like?

The performance of Deadly Straits by Todd Haberkorn was outstanding and his performance of Deadly Coast is fantastic! So much so that I researched this Narrator and R.E. McDermott has pulled off a coup in attaining his considerable skill to narrate Deadly Coast. Todd Haberkorn is a captivating narrator that engages the listener with his voice and ability to give life to the characters that has you creating a compelling story in your head. A real gift.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I was drawn in more and more until I was virtually unable to turn it off. Very engaged!

    Any additional comments?

I can only wonder when both author and narrator will be able to get together on the next project because this listener will be waiting to get on board to enjoy another gripping yarn. Well done Robert and Well Done Todd!

Where does Kokoda rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This Audiobook rates as number 1, because I am an Aussie and you can only be touched at the amazing story of what took place in the Owen Stanleys. The incredible suffering of both Australians and Japanese soldiers. The incredible courage of all men involved in this feat of arms. The stupidity of Generals, particularly American Generals, who showed themselves to be second rate. Whilst Australia's General Blamey was a shameless sycophant who cared little for his men, demonstrated by what took place. He will never walk in the shadows of the other giants who fought on the Track. Fitzsimmons has conveyed an incedible yarn of what took place in New Guinea with fantastic links to the characters that took part.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The men of Maroubra Force and Damien Parer, Osmar White and Chester Wilmont.

    Which scene was your favorite?

The taking of Gona by the 39th Battalion under the command of Colonel Ralph Honner. Chocolate Soldiers Indeed!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed, I cried, I was angry and in awe of the men and women of this era who did so much.

    Any additional comments?

Lewis FitzGerald is an outstanding narrator and does an incredible job of bringing Peter Fitzsimmons ripping yarn to life. Don't miss this fantastic book and audiobook. I will look for more Lewis FitzGerald narrated books.
