I enjoyed listening to this book read by Steve Martin about his own life. I wish it was longer for the price, but it was worth my time. Steve's experience working at DisneyLand and the Music Circus at Knotts Berry Farm was a fact that I did not know about Mr. Martin. Hearing about how he came up with the "Excuse Me" and other comedy routines I remember from my teens was fascinating. Take the time and listen.
This is not the type of book I listen to normally, but it was ranked so popular, I decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did. The story draws you in right away, and makes you really like Charlie, the main character. You cheer for him, you understand him, you probably know someone like him in your life. The setting is San Francisco, which is an interesting city to hear about. The description of the city are very accurate and I felt like I was there. Fisher Stevens is a very good reader...his voices for the sewer harpies is dead on and I forget I am listening to a read and felt like I was in the sewer with them. I just finished this in less than a week, which is a record for me. I couldn't wait for the commute home each night to hear another 30 minutes of the story. I have laughed out loud at all the crazy antics and funny insightful thoughts that Mr. Moore expresses. I highly recommend this book if you have a silly sense of humor and need something to think about other than work or stressful things. I just purchased another Christopher Moore book and am looking at another read by Fisher Stevens it's that good. LISTEN TO THIS BOOK.
I really enjoyed listening to the stories of other long lost loves reunited. It was interesting but not overly "sickening sweet" and the author added fascinating psychological and physiology facts about the joys and success of reunited loves. If you are contemplating a new relationship or just like to hear positive stories, you will enjoy this book. My only small complaint is that the author is a rich successful person and often appears to go on too long about famous people she knows or fancy places she visited. A little is good, but she borders on too much. It is forgivable.
