From her lookout on the first floor, Ginny watches and waits for her younger sister to return to the crumbling mansion that was once their idyllic childhood home. Vivien has not set foot in the house since she left, forty-seven years ago; Ginny, the reclusive moth expert, has rarely ventured out. She has been selling off the family furniture over the years, gradually shutting each wing of the house and retreating into the precise routines that define her days.

I would highly recommend this book. It is written so beautifully and description of even the simplest things is a grammatical symphony!

The story is about an older lady living in a big run down estate in England and very different to anything I have ever read/listen to. It kept me interested to the end.

I believe it's the authors first book, well done Poppy I hope you write many more! Oh and the narrator is wonderful perfect person for the job!!

A startling psychological thriller debut for any fan of Gone Girl or Before I go to Sleep. Menacing, suspenseful and utterly compelling, this is a stunning debut novel that throws the spotlight on the fine line between love and hate, and leaves you wondering just who you trust. Remember the person you sat next to on your first day at school? Still your best friend? Or disappeared from your life for good? Some friendships fizzle out. Rachel and Clara promised theirs would last for ever.

    Both girls were excellent characters.

When Barry Fairbrother dies in his early 40s, the town of Pagford is left in shock. Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty facade is a town at war. Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils.... Pagford is not what it first seems. And the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen.

What did you love best about The Casual Vacancy?

I very much enjoyed the characters of the book.

What did you like best about this story?

The fact that I felt like I was actually there in the rooms with the characters, Rowling's description was so clear.

Which character – as performed by Tom Hollander – was your favorite?

Crystal... And I was absolutely astounded at how wonderfully Tom Hollander portrayed all of the characters very convincingly, from a 3 year old boy to a gruff old women! BRILLIANT performance, in fact the first thing I did was check out what other books Tom had narrated, I enjoyed his performance so much!

If you could rename The Casual Vacancy, what would you call it?

    Don't judge a book by it's cover!

    Any additional comments?

17 hours flew past, not very often a story can keep me till the end with that sort of length. Loved it, more please Ms Rowling!

WARNING: some listeners may find this content offensive. Evesdrop on the bizarre, surprising and very secret lives of public people who have been caught unaware by the microphone. An excellent impressionist show with Jon Culshaw and other masters of the art, all about politicians and celebs caught unawares. Jon Culshaw was one of the stars of the Dead Ringers Radio and TV Series.

I really enjoyed these series of audio books, very funny and very true in lots of ways. Great to poke fun at humans and their characteristics! I really enjoy dramatizations, and this was an excellent example of how added sound effects takes you right into the story.

One of the biggest selling titles of the year, now available in audio. A very special read that is guaranteed to make you laugh and cry. When Delia Bennet - author and domestic advice columnist - is diagnosed with cancer, she knows it's time to get her house in order. Fresh, witty, deeply moving - and a celebration of love, family and that place we call home - this unforgettable story will surprise and delight the reader until the very last page.

It's not often that I finish an audio book and search madly for another one by the same author!

I didnt want this story to end, the descriptive nature of this book is "delicious" very "saucy" in lots of ways!! It will leave you licking your lips at the thought of all that wonderful food!

Highly recommended, wish I could find more of a similar nature.
