"Unending dreariness plagues this book"
I kept waiting for some small ray of hope to relieve the total doom and gloom of this book. From beginning to end, it is full of hopelessness. It become tedious and boring. I definitely don't recommend wasting money or time on it.
"Hilarious and fun"
I love a good series because once you find a great main character, which Suki Stackhouse definitely is, a lot of the guesswork is taken out of one's next choice. The narration by Johanna Parker is one of the best I've ever listened to. She captures the point of view, mood and fun of the character perfectly. I also like how the author keeps the storyline moving along, introduces new and interesting characters, and leaves enough 'unknown' to motivate the listener to keep going. I have now listened to 4 from this series and can't wait for my credits to renew to get my next one.
"not a favorite"
No, I wouldn't. Very plodding story line. I got bored way before the last download section and didn't even bother. It was doom and gloom from the start and I found nothing to motivate me towards hearing the last. I can't even rate the Performance honestly because I so disliked the story.I hate buying a book I don't even want to finish because it's such a waste of time and money. sorry folks, wish I had liked it.
Have an interesting plot line and more dimensions to the characters
Nothing could save it
I hope not
"Unrelieved doom and gloom"
There is not a hint of hope or change of pace. All is dismal and getting more so. If you aren't already depressed by reality, TRY THIS!
"Very slow story about nothing"
I was very much looking forward to listening to this book because I had read other books in this series and found them amusing and interesting. I was very disappointed by both the Author and especially by the narrator, Lisette Lecat, who was not only exceedingly s-l-o-w, but pronounced every 'M' as MMMMMM, until I couldn't stand to hear another word, even when I put my Ipod on 'faster' speed. It was so slow and boring I couldn't even tell you what it was about.
"hard to follow, boring to listen to."
I expected I would like this book because I have read numerous Georgette Heyer books set in this era, but was sadly disappointed in the way this was presented. The author tells one the story rather than having the characters' dialogue carry the story. Was bored to tears by hour 2 and couldn't stand to finish it.
"Not up to expectations"
I am a dedicated Heyer fan, but the voice of the Hero made him sound in his 70's rather than that of the daunting dare devil portrayed. Overall it destroyed the whole wonderful illusion Heyer usually casts and I would return it if I could. I'm so glad Audible now gives listeners the opportunity to hear a few minutes BEFORE one buys.
"Great Story and fantastic Narrator"
For me the story being told is critical, but with audiobooks, the narration is just as important. With S.M. Stirling enthralling series about what happens when the world is thrown into 'The Change,' complimented by the topnotch narration of Todd McLaren, you get the best of both worlds. I've listened to the first 2 books of this series and I can't wait to download the third next month!
