The whole back ground story is hard to understand. Somehow they are trapped in this system with multiple inhabitable worlds with multiple species and no faster than light to get out. They do mention an arrival event 10,000 years before, but there is no explanation. The Jedi (Je'edi) are supposed to be balanced between light and dark and carry real swords that somehow still deflect blaster bolts. The whole story is sister versus brother (been there done that) one being strong in the force and one running away from it. It was hard to care about any of the characters, they all kept doing stupid out of character things. It was like they had a story they needed to sell and the only way they figured it would, was to put it in a Star Wars universe, so they threw one together and didn't explain anything or tie it in to anything else. I guess now that Lucas is out of the picture, they can do anything they want.
Honor Harrington or The Lost Fleet this is not. Even an Imperial Star Destroyer would be hard pressed to put all the weapons squeezed onto this (first) earth explorer ship and that is the least of the problems with this story. I would re-read (listen) to a classic series before picking up the next book in this series.
