I love fantasy, history, and historical fiction. Lit classes were always my favorites.

In rural 1800s England, things go bad for a young matchmaker after she finds a man for another woman. Emma is considered by many to be Austen's finest novel. The book has been adapted countless times to stage, film, and television.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I enjoyed the story, but the recording isn't that good. There were bloopers and alternate takes left in the track. Still, it's pretty cheap and not terrible for its flaws.

What other book might you compare Emma to and why?

It's a lot like Austen's other books. There are young socialites who love to gossip, have balls, and hope to marry rich men. They're not my cup of tea, but I like listening to them better than I like reading them.

Did Jane Leclercq do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Despite the audio flaws, Leclercq isn't a bad narrator. If the production had been edited, I would have rated the performance higher.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

I'm not that big a fan of Jane Austen novels. Cluesless is based on Emma and I recommend that.

    Any additional comments?

If you can overlook some recording blips, the narrator does a good job, it doesn't cost much, and the story is entertaining for Austen fans.
