In the heart of Italy, Harvard professor of symbology, Robert Langdon, is drawn into a harrowing world centered on one of history’s most enduring and mysterious literary masterpieces: Dante’s Inferno. Against this backdrop, Langdon battles a chilling adversary and grapples with an ingenious riddle that pulls him into a landscape of classic art, secret passageways, and futuristic science. Drawing from Dante’s dark epic poem, Langdon races to find answers and decide whom to trust...before the world is irrevocably altered.

I don't understand what happened to the guy who wrote "Angels and Demons?" This book is derivative, trite, and predictable to a fault. Half the book was a tourist guide to Italian sites. The "brilliant" protagonists seemed like idiots. Antagonists and protagonists had incredible bad and good luck moment to moment, like people who win the lottery one minute and lose a limb the next, hour after hour, relentlessly. Hard to hear. I was so disappointed. I will know better than to buy his next book.

There was one factor that the terrorists didn’t take into account when they struck the Capitana oil platform off the coast of Colombia - slaughtering much of the crew and blowing up the platform - and that was the Capitana crew chief, Dewey Andreas. Dewey, former Army Ranger and Delta, survives the attack, rescuing as many of his men as possible. But the battle has just begun....

I am shocked that this dross got such stellar reviews from so many. Perhaps it could have been better supported by a better narrator. I have recently listened to Washington: a Life, The Last Detective (Crais...similiar only in genre) and The Gone Away World. This book isn't even on the same planet as any of the aforementioned or fifty others i have heard. I will, from now on, assume reviews are specious at best.
