The narrator could have read a bit faster, but did a great job nonetheless.
Incredible story for those that have 'heard things' about Echelon and it's capabilities, and have fears built falsely on the listening capabilities of our government, this book helps to define many of the things they can and can't do, but also may be able to do. Terrific book!
Frank Herbert's genius will never be matched or even emulated successfully. Granted, Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson gave the disclaimer in the beginning that they wouldn't be able to match it, but several times there were some really weak emulations that just made me angry, like the way the word 'generous' was used in previous books, it's like they threw it in just for a bit of nostalgia. I agree with one of the other reviewers here, that the original outline of Frank Herbert's should be released in unedited form.
I don't have anything to back this up, but this book seemed to be wholly written by Kevin J. Anderson, read the 'Saga of the Seven Suns' series and you'll see what I mean, his personal style is all over this. Unfortunately, for me this has been such a clash in writing styles that I can barely make it through this book. I hope the original manuscripts/outlines will be published in full someday.
Just an unbelievable book... I own my own consulting business, and am currently trying to figure out how to apply Tim's teachings toward my structure, as quickly as possible. This is the lifesaver tossed out to anyone that wants to escape spending their life working, and not enjoying. The narrator did a great job with his highly motivational tone throughout the book.
Excellent read from start to finish... Personally not knowing much about the history of some of the 'secret societies' descibed in this book, it brought up an interesting theory that had me thinking about it for several weeks, looking for plainly obvious weak points, altogether a great book.
Very dry, completely lost interest at several point in the second file of the book, didn't finish it. Way too much detail in areas that I didn't think were pertinent to the point of the story. I would only recommend this if you don't know ANYTHING about the Afghan-Soviet story at all.
