An extraordinary debut novel of love that survives the fires of hell and transcends the boundaries of time. The narrator of The Gargoyle is a very contemporary cynic, physically beautiful and sexually adept, who dwells in the moral vacuum that is modern life. As the book opens, he is driving along a dark road when he is distracted by what seems to be a flight of arrows.

    "Just loved it!"

When the book started I felt that it was going to be a book that I regretted purchasing. As the characters developed and the author began to weave interplaying story lines into the book I was hooked. I just loved it. A good read by an excellent author and Lincoln Hoppe never disappoints with his well-thought narrative.

There was one factor that the terrorists didn’t take into account when they struck the Capitana oil platform off the coast of Colombia - slaughtering much of the crew and blowing up the platform - and that was the Capitana crew chief, Dewey Andreas. Dewey, former Army Ranger and Delta, survives the attack, rescuing as many of his men as possible. But the battle has just begun....

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This book grabbed me from the opening line and did not let me go until the end. And I wanted more. The author knew his stuff and his characters were well written and in profile start to finish. I hope this is just book 1 of 20!

What other book might you compare Power Down to and why?

I wouldn't compare this to anything I have read lately. It stands in a class by itself.

Have you listened to any of Peter Hermann’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Great performance, excellent diction, excellent characterization, and the timing was exquisite.

The culminating volume in The Saga of Seven Suns weaves together the myriad story lines in a spectacular grand finale. Galactic empires clash, elemental beings devastate whole planetary systems, and the factions of humanity are pitted against one another. Heroes rise and enemies make their last stands in the climax of an epic tale eight years in the making. The Saga of Seven Suns is one of the most colorful and spectacular science-fiction epics of the past decade.

I read the entire series of 7 books and all-in-all I thought it was a good story. I was some what disappointed in the last book because I felt ( and this may sound odd) too many good guys lived. I needed more pathos to fell like it was all worth it. The reader with the southern accents drove me nuts. Everyone who was working class had a trailer-trash-from-texas-arkansas-mississippi-georgia-alabama-new-orleans accent. They sounded like they should have been flying Winnebagos and not mantas. But I admit, I would read the series again.

Why we think it’s a great listen: How do you one-up a book that’s already a global literary phenomenon? Hire Simon Vance to (flawlessly) interpret the loves, lives, and murders of Sweden’s cold and secret-filled world. A spellbinding amalgam of murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue. It's about the disappearance 40 years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden.

    "Great Story!"

I liked this book a lot. The characters were interesting, well developed, and real. The story built with intent and skill and was delightfully reconciled at the end. The reader was fabulous. His use of voices was true from start to finish and his inflection, tonal control, and emotional projection was flawless. I can't wait for another story by this author and read by this reader.
