"On and on and on and on and.... you get the idea."
I'm a fan of Gladwell, but found this pretty repetitive and boring to be honest. (I haven't even finished it yet, can't bring myself to!)
Great concepts but they could be expressed in a more concise and compelling way. Found the book to be too long-winded for my tastes.
"Blegh"
I think that says it. I never finished this book so maybe I'm not qualified to review it, but take that as my review - the fact I couldn't get through it. Cheesy, boring, waste of time.
"Good, but not memorable"
This is a good... long... read. It was well written with good insight into this family's life. It was touching and interesting and *perhaps* worth the listen, but it wasn't memorable. If given the book read/listen to it, but if you're considering buying it, I'd give it a miss.
"Surprisingly good!"
I bought this in June 2008 and never listened to it... got a few "pages" in and got bored. But about a month ago I'd run out of purchased options and gave this one another chance. I promptly bought the next to books in the series as well as it was a surprisingly engaging and interesting listen! This is the best of the 3-book series but the other two (Catching Fire and Mockingjay) are also good. It's an interesting world and captivating setting and description. The characters are interesting, but it's very much about setting in this. The narrator is good and is the same person in the next two books too so that was nice. Give it a listen, you'll be impressed!
"OMG"
This was the first Jodi Picoult book I'd read and it was fantastic. It was so descriptive (without droning) and pulled at all the right heart-strings. I will never see the movie they've made though cuz I would bawl my eyes out in the theatre lol. FANTASTIC book.
"A little fluffy"
This was a little too 'it's not your fault you're fat' for me... too much fluff and hand-holding. I suppose it would work for some people, but not my style.
"Boring and droning"
Need I say more? The book just drones on and on. I didn't make it very far before I gave up. Not worth it.
"Pretty good"
Very insightful and informative, but got a little redundant by the end. Not just for early 20s, this is a good reminder that men aren't really that complicated. Reiterates some obvious things that we often forget because we tend to overanalyze.
"Very entertaining"
Not much you can really take from this book to improve your life, but it was an entertaining listen for the commute. Gives you some insight into how snap decisions are formed, how accurate they are and how they apply to business and society. I really enjoyed this.
"One Raised Eyebrown Out of Two"
Where did this guy do his research? The white people he describes refers to new age, pretentious, Californian vegan hippies.
There are a few kernels of truth in the extensive list of what white people supposedly like, but it was a lot less entertaining than I was anticipating.
I think the author sort of missed some key cliches as well.
In the book, Lander says that white people like a variety of teas (green, chai, black, etc.) but REALLY white people will have only one brand that they drink and will badmouth other brands. Lander says that white people like ethnic food, but REALLY white people like traditional meat and potatoes or whatever is local to their region.
Anyway, wasn't a fan... thought it described only the type of white person you'd see on the OC. Not me or anyone I know!
