"Not what I exected...but an interesting listen."
I think I was looking for more of the myth factor here. What Jacobsen has done is conducted incredibly thorough research to reveal the truth to a lot of mysteries; truth perhaps not as exciting as proposed by popular media. However, I learned a lot, historically speaking. I also liked that Jacobsen narrated her own work, knowing the hours she must have put into the research.
"Sorry Debra - the Narration Didn't Cut it."
I would recommend this book to a friend in print form because I think it would be a more enjoyable read than listen.
I found the audio version somewhat confusing because the narrator did not give enough differentiation to each of the different women "character voices." So I often found myself confused about who was speaking in that particular chapter. This is a book that would have been better served with a variety of narrator voices I believe.
I think this would make a very beautiful screen adaptation.
I was a little disappointed in "Love Anthony" as compared to Genova's "Still Alice." I see what she was aiming for, but the plot was just more convoluted. Again, perhaps a different narration style would have helped.
"Intriguing, Insightful. A listen worth your credit"
It seems I've been on a dry stretch of trying to find a book that would really capture my interest lately. Moloka'i has it!! I learned a lot, the characters were realistic and memorable and the historical research was remarkably well done and yet easily transposed into a great plot about the history leprosy colony off main land Hawaii.
A narrator who obviously has the knowledge of Hawaii and its language and traditions only adds to the enjoyment of this listen.
"Over "acted" and frustrating plot."
At first the mystery in this novel drew my in, but by the end I just wanted to get it over with. The plot line of this mystery went overboard to the point of ridiculous with it's plot twists. By the end the narrator's voice was annoying - or maybe it was just the main character herself.
I've been enjoying many great Laura Lipmann reads, and decided to switch it up. I'm going back to Laura.
This book would probably be better as a shortened, edited movie. It might actually have potential on screen.
"Kept in suspense until the last minutes!!"
I enjoyed this book because I simply could NOT guess the outcome of the story and just had to keep listening to get to the mystery solution!! A great escape read.
"Her honesty is breathtaking."
Lucky made a great impact upon me personally, encouraging me in what I am going through in my own life, although of a far different nature...Alice's bravery in persuing her assailant and sharing her story has inspired me.
"Loved the past/present storyline"
Intriguing, romantic, historical
Dee, the failed actress who missed hollywood fame by a slip of fate and goes on with stoicism
Loved this listen
"Not a fast moving plot, but relaxing listen"
I really enjoyed the narration of this audible choice, particularly the "Idaohan" accents.
This is definately a novel of characters and relationships...I developed a particular fondess for Cora, the main character, as she evolves through the story.
This is a relaxing listen; the narration is particularly soft and soothing with a very melodic smooth quality...there is something "different" about the sound of this narrator that I found refreshing. I fell into the story line and enjoyed it to the end.
"Headphones on & I looked crazy laughing aloud!"
This would be one of the most memorable books I've listened to out of almost 300...because I kept laughing outloud...bursting in to jolts of surprised laughter and looking a little crazy while listening on the bus!!
Sully is a character who just grows on you...it is like a deeper journey with one of the characters from "Grumpy Old Men." This character just continued to surprise me with his reactions and one liners to the very end.
This is definately a "character" novel...not a real plot driven story. Never the less the characterization (and the audio narration in particular) was so well developed with such perfect humour, that my enjoyment and shock at this character's personality just kept growing. Have to say a little disappointed with the end of the story, but still a very entertaining listen!
"Suprising plot twists and emotional pull on reader"
I missed almost two nights of sleep....I just couldn't stop listening. The plot and character development were a tiny bit slow at the beginning but knocked my socks off by the end! The plot was so unexpected at points, yet the emotional connection to the characters just kept developing. I ALMOST cried at the last few paragraphs and I NEVER cry during books!!
I really enjoyed Patience's German accented female performance at certain points of the novel. I thought Jeff captured the character's different ages well.
There are SO many good lines in this book, I think I am going to buy the actual book just to highlight!!! Also, this is a book that SHOULD definitely be transformed for the big screen.
"A relaxing yet intriguing listen."

I enjoyed the overall storyline. It was just a good Kristen Hannah escape novel. I enjoyed the feral child (wolf child) plot line and the child's character development through the story.
Julia is a prominent psychiatrist who has botched a recent case and is now faced with the challenge of working with a deeply emotionally scared child who has been abandoned. Her deepening love for this child as the plot progresses is very moving.
A great "escape" listen!
