Bill Bryson, the author, is an excellent writer and quite a good reader as well. The reading is charming and easy going even on topics that often boggle the mind. The book is basically the story of how we got the be where we are. It is the history, the story, of our planet and the life on our planet. It is not only a history of science but also a history of what we know (or think we know) and what we thought we knew. This story is told in an easy style with more than a little irreverence. You may hear information that you heard before but if you are not a student of the area it is an enchanting reminder.
yes, the process and assumptions are most interesting
Deep Survival by L. Gonzales. The story, analysis and process of how we look at, and understand, ourselves is very interesting.
