Valentino's travels, truly Biblical in scope, bring him in contact with government soldiers, janjaweed-like militias, liberation rebels, hyenas and lions, disease and starvation, and a string of unexpected romances. Ultimately, Valentino finds safety in Kenya and, just after the millennium, is finally resettled in the United States, from where this novel is narrated.

This book is terrible. The sentences are choppy, the narrator reads every sentence as if it were exclamatory, and it's excruciatingly boring. I wish I could rate it zero stars.

The Mote In God's Eye is their acknowledged masterpiece, an epic novel of mankind's first encounter with alien life that transcends the genre. No lesser an authority than Robert A. Heinlein called it "possibly the finest science fiction novel I have ever read".

Over five years in the writing, Alice Hoffman’s most ambitious and mesmerizing work ever, a triumph of imagination and research set in ancient Israel. The author of such iconic bestsellers as Illumination Night, Practical Magic, Fortune’s Daughter, and Oprah’s Book Club selection Here on Earth, Alice Hoffman is one of the most popular and memorable writers of her generation. Now, in The Dovekeepers, Hoffman delivers her most masterful work yet - one that draws on her passion for mythology, magic, and archaeology and her inimitable understanding of women.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Whiny, depressing, every sentence full of negative words. I very rarely drop a book midway through, but I've had enough!

This mesmerizing first novel tells the epic journey of Lin, an escaped convict who flees maximum security prison in Australia to disappear into the underworld of contemporary Bombay. Accompanied by his guide and faithful friend, Prabaker, Lin searches for love and meaning while running a clinic in one of the city's poorest slums and serving his apprenticeship in the dark arts of the Bombay mafia. The keys to unlock the mysteries that bind Lin are held by two people: his mentor Khader Khan, mafia godfather and criminal-philosopher; and the beautiful, elusive Karla, whose passions are driven by dangerous secrets.

This story was awesome. I only listened to it during short trips to and from work because I didn't want it to end. Humphrey Bower is a fabulous narrator, giving life to so many characters with many different accents. I can't wait for another book from Gregory Roberts!

I loved this audiobook. The narration was wonderful, the writing was superb and I can't wait until Diane Setterfield comes out with a new book. I lost 5 pounds while listening to this book because I just wanted to keep walking on the treadmill.
