At 22, Cheryl Strayed thought she had lost everything. In the wake of her mother's death, her family scattered and her own marriage was soon destroyed. Four years later, with nothing more to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life: to hike the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington State - and to do it alone. She had no experience as a long-distance hiker, and the trail was little more than “an idea, vague and outlandish and full of promise.” But it was a promise of piecing back together a life that had come undone.

As someone who has dreams of picking up everything and being much more adventurous than I actually am, I truly enjoyed this book. If you are looking for a true account of life on the PCT, you may get that, but it is really much more than that, how a journey of 1100 miles on a trail led to healing and acceptance.

Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children's librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed $25 in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that's sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead.

I really liked how to seduce a naked warewolf. Found it on sale on one of those audible offers and really thought it was light and entertaining. This book was not quite as entertaining, but I still enjoyed it and think it is worth a listen.

Combining suspense and intrigue with a wonderfully humorous take on the link between man and beast, Spencer Quinn's exceptional mystery series has captured widespread praise since its New York Times best-selling debut, Dog on It. The Dog Who Knew Too Much marks the duo's triumphant return in a tale that's full of surprises.

I like Chet so much that I now believe my own dog has an internal monologue. He does get a little repetitive at times, but he is a lovable narrator and these are fun books to listen to.

I've listened to over a hundred audio books and this one truly stands out (along with Unbroken) as one of the best of all time. I thought that the length of the book was going to be overwhelming and tedious but I found myself looking forward to driving to work or doing chores because I could listen to the trials and tribulations of selfish and self-serving Scarlett.

Why we think it’s a great listen: A performance so poignant, we gave Bronson Pinchot (yes, Balki from Perfect Strangers) our inaugural Narrator of the Year award.... In the monsoon season of 1968-69 at a fire support base called Matterhorn, located in the remote mountains of Vietnam, a young and ambitious Marine lieutenant wants to command a company to further his civilian political ambitions. But two people stand in his way.

I listened to this book as someone who is not a history or war buff. But I truly did enjoy this story and the character development. I became deeply involved with the characters and their desperate desire for survival, laid over the political and racial tensions of the day.

Generations of werewolves have been secretly residing in a secluded valley a stones throw from Grundy, Alaska. So when a snooping Outsider comes to Grundy to investigate rumors of lycanthropic shenanigans in the area, the valleys pack alpha, Maggie Graham, resolves to chase him away, even if doing so takes a quick bite on the butt. What a pity that researcher Nick Thatcher turns out to be so drool-worthy, and that his kisses make Maggie want to sit up and beg.

In late 2003, in his column in Entertainment Weekly, Stephen King called The Memory of Running "the best novel you won't read this year." This glowing endorsement of the audiobook resulted in Ron McLarty receiving a $2 million two-book deal from Viking Penguin. Also, Warner Brothers has shelled out big bucks for the movie rights to The Memory of Running, for which McLarty will write the script.

I was excited about this book because it did get reviewed well. I must say I'm truly surprised at the ratings. If it takes 4 hours to decide if you are going to keep listening, that is not the sign of a good audiobook. Maybe if you were reading and could skip over much of the tedium, it would be ok, but I would not recommend this as a listen. Not at all.
