Kramer reads it well and it is enjoyable to listen to. Despite Dionne's personal liberal bias, which he freely admits, the book is a fair look at the history of how we've arrived where we are now.
Voice was interesting to listen to. Very nice.
If the story actually progressed at a rate that was faster than a crippled snail crawling over salt.
After this, I have to say I am done,
The narrators do a fine job with all the characters. Sadly, there is little dialogue and therefore no chance for real "getting into character". But if you want to hear about skirt smoothing, shawl straightening, or lip tightening for literally hours; then this is the book for you.
Just cut the endless descriptions. I get the whole "creating a world" thing. I don't need a 30 minute description of someone turning a page in a book and everyone's reaction to the turning of said page. Yes, that happens.
I started reading this series in 6th or 7th grade, I really enjoyed it. The first 4 books are pretty good. I fell off after the next 4 books. This series just drags on and on. I know this series still has a devoted following, and with all respect to them, they must have an enormous amount of free time. I don't get as much time as I'd like to read or even listen to books, I'm not wasting it on a 20+ hour book that should have been 4 or 5 hours.
The way the story is written in a "Canterbury Tales" fashion. Each character's story is distinct both in style and substance but each adds information to the overall story arc.
SPOILER!!!:That the infant was aging in reverse after the adult had been attacked in and escaped the Time Tombs.
Whichever narrator read the Priest's Tale.
The ending seemed rushed and left a lot hanging. Yes, it is the first of a series. But I feel like more could have happened in this novel. It is very much a setup for the other books in the series.
The P.I.'s tale was fairly dry and grammatically un-stimulating. I realize this is a style choice base on the character telling the story and so is a testament to Simmon's abilities. Just personally it got tedious to listen to, I can't imagine reading it.
