Eveline Armstrong is fiercely loved and protected by her powerful clan, but outsiders consider her "touched." Beautiful, fey, with a level, intent gaze, she doesn't speak. No one, not even her family, knows that she cannot hear. Content with her life of seclusion, Eveline has taught herself to read lips and allows the outside world to view her as daft. But when an arranged marriage into a rival clan makes Graeme Montgomery her husband, Eveline accepts her duty -unprepared for the delights to come.

Perhaps it isn't reasonable - but the attitudes and actions of the characters seemed too modern and politically correct for the time period the story was supposed to have been set. It's got to be so hard to put an accent in a story, and the reader did ok when she did use the Scottish brogue ... but, wouldn't the characters thoughts have the same accent? I don't know - it was distracting. Accent on, accent off.I loved Josie Litton's trilogy - although not in set in Scotland, it was a similar historical period romance. Those stories were much more developed, consistent - with lovely themes. I expected this book to be as good. Not.I have no desire to listen to the rest of this series.

In 1919, Delano, Georgia, appoints its first chief of police. Honest and hardworking, the new chief is puzzled when young men start to disappear. But his investigation is ended by the fatal blast from a shotgun. Delano's second chief-of-police is no hero, yet he is also disturbed by what he sees in the missing-persons bulletins. In 1969, when Delano's third chief takes over, the unsolved disappearances still haunt the police files.

Could not get through it. Reader was so dull. Increased speed to 1.25 which helped. But nothing happened. I kept hoping something would happen. Got through the first 2, but gave up. What happened to Audible's policy of returning books for a replacement credit? This was such a waste - of time and of a precious credit. Boring with a capital B.

This book was the funniest (laugh out LOUD funny), sweetest, most memorable listen I've ever found in the Audible library. Bought it years ago - have listened to it many times. Shared it with several friends. MUCH BETTER than the shopaholic series, I've never understood why this book didn't get more attention for Sophie Kinsella. The characters are quirky, the romantic hero has a wonderful touch of the "prince charming" - and the humor is just wonderful. Do yourself a favor and give it a listen - pure entertainment!

At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking, reading to partying; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over brainstorming in teams. Although they are often labeled "quiet," it is to introverts that we owe many of the great contributions to society--from van Gogh’s sunflowers to the invention of the personal computer.

This was an incredible, eye opening, wonderful book. Not a dull psychology or just another "self-help" book ... but a life affirming view of MY reality. Interesting from start to finish - so full of "ah HA!" moments, I can't wait to listen to it again - to more fully absorb it all. I hope corporate America and teachers, especially, read this - not just those of us who think/suspect we are introverts. I know it could change so many lives if the world would look at this subject with Susan Cain's brilliant points. I'm going to recommend it to everyone I know. I humbly and sincerely thank Susan for her compassionate and desperately needed book. I will be thinking of my life so differently now! Just a joy to hear.

Justin and Libby Denbe have the kind of life you’d find in the pages of a glossy magazine: A beautiful 14-year-old daughter. A gorgeous brownstone on a tree-lined street in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood. A great marriage, admired by all. A perfect life. When investigator Tessa Leone arrives at the crime scene in the foyer of the Denbes’ home, she finds scuff marks on the floor and a million tiny pieces of bright green Taser confetti. The family appears to have been abducted.

I found the premise gripping and compelling. I got a bit confused with some of the characters in regards to the husband's business... but probably my own fault, trying to listen while doing other things. I enjoyed the presence of the character from her earlier book "Love You More" - she had intrigued me and I hope she shows up in future books. Recommend it!

A classic of Holocaust literature, Gerda Weissmann Klein's celebrated memoir tells the moving story of a young woman's 3 frightful years as a slave laborer of the Nazis and her miraculous liberation. All But My Life stands as the ultimate lesson in humanity, hope, and friendship.

    "Fascinating and rewarding"
    Overall

Inspiring and gripping story. I loved the author's personal style, weaving emotion with detail into a beautiful piece. I don't understand the complaints about the reader - she was fine. Not exceptionally good, or anything, but not distracting. Listen to the sample to reassure yourself - then get this book! I admit I've been obsessed with the holocaust for the last few months. We visited relatives in Wroclaw Poland this summer and visited Auschwitz. The experience was almost indescribable. I've been reading all I can find from survivors ever since - I am so moved by the idea of overcoming that heinous place and time. We need to remember these people and the crimes committed against them. Gerda's story isn't bitter or hateful, it is just poignantly honest. You will love it.

She's old-money Miami. He's barefoot Coconut Grove. The only thing they had in common was the law, until they faced each other in the steamiest murder trial of the century, a case that would make sparks fly, headlines scream, and opposites attract. Surrounded by crooks, con men, and a cast of colorful characters, Steve Solomon and Vickie Lord must solve the crime before they end up in ruin, in jail, or, worse, in bed.

The brutal murders of three young boys paralyze the citizens of Platte City, Nebraska. What's worse is the grim realization that the man recently executed for the crimes was a copycat. When Sheriff Nick Morrelli is called to the scene of another grisly murder, it becomes clear that the real predator is still at large, waiting to kill again.

"great story - where's the ending?"
    Overall

Very entertaining - but you should warn people that the crime will not be solved, nor the romance resolved - it's like a cheap way to get people to buy a sequel. I liked it - but I wouldn't have listened to all those hours, waiting anxiously for the resolution, if I had known that there was none!
