Now, after captivating audiences in her blockbuster memoir Hoda, she turns to stories about others who have undergone personal transformation against great odds. Most. Boring. Book. Ever. And Hoda's narration is awful. She speaks way too fast and is monotone. The stories were far too "sugar bowl". Not for me. I dont' recommend it.

For 41 years, Samson Brown has been caring for Hannah, the lone elephant at the down-at-the-heels Max L. Biedelman Zoo. Having vowed not to retire until an equally loving and devoted caretaker is found to replace him, Sam rejoices when smart, compassionate Neva Wilson is hired as the new elephant keeper. But Neva quickly discovers what Sam already knows: that despite their loving care, Hannah is isolated from other elephants and her feet are nearly ruined from standing on hard concrete all day.

    Story

This is a cute story, but the book is way too long and goes into details about non-consequential events and people. Just page filler. The narrator did an okay job, but she tended to make some people talk way too slowly, making them sound almost borderline abnormal. Can't say I'd recommend either the book or the narrator. A couple of times I thought of not finishing it. The ending was a bit of a let down after listening for so long.... I think you can easily skip this one.

Six years have passed since Jake Fisher watched Natalie, the love of his life, marry another man. Six years of hiding a broken heart by throwing himself into his career as a college professor. Six years of keeping his promise to leave Natalie alone, and six years of tortured dreams of her life with her new husband, Todd. But six years haven’t come close to extinguishing his feelings, and when Jake comes across Todd’s obituary, he can’t keep himself away from the funeral. There he gets the glimpse of Todd’s wife he’s hoping for...but she is not Natalie....

Debut novelist Eowyn ivey’s experience living in the Alaskan wilderness brings a palpable authenticity to The Snow Child. Alaska in the 1920s is a difficult place for Jack and Mabel. Drifting apart, the childless couple discover Faina, a young girl living alone in the wilderness. Soon, Jack and Mabel come to love Faina as their own. But when they learn a surprising truth about the girl, their lives change in profound ways.

This is possibly the worst book ever written. It’s like a bad fairy tale on drugs. It’s completely non-sensical, and isn’t even interesting. Not to mention that it’s wwaaaayyyyy tooooooo looooonnnnggg. I can’t believe I made it all the way through to the end. It was only by sheer determination, but its 10+ hours of my life I’ll never get back. The ONLY redeeming qualities were the artful writing and the performance of the narrator, but the story is totally ridiculous and the ending is beyond ridiculous. Save your money and time on this one.

Andy Barber has been an assistant district attorney in his suburban Massachusetts county for more than 20 years. He is respected in his community, tenacious in the courtroom, and happy at home with his wife, Laurie, and son, Jacob. But when a shocking crime shatters their New England town, Andy is blindsided by what happens next: his 14-year-old son is charged with the murder of a fellow student.

    Story

This book had a somewhat interesting plot line and is written in the first person, but it's not a true story. I guess if you are a parent, you can identify with what kind of emotions and problems would occur when your child is accused of a murder. The book is wwaaaayyyyyy too long and tedious in places - particularly in some courtroom exchanges. The questions asked by the attorneys about minute little details regarding knives, etc. that have nothing to do with the story cause you to lose interest - and practically put you to sleep. I found myself saying out loud more than once: "Just move on already!". The book could probably be about 1/2 its length and still tell the story. It wouldn't improve the story line, though, which is just mediocre and - for the most part - mostly unbelievable. I can neither recommend nor not recommend. It depends whether you have 15 hours of your life you don't care if you never get back.

After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he's still in good health, and in one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn't interested (and he'd like a bit more control over his vodka consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash.

Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?

This is a good listen, and a book in Grisham's usual twisty-turny legal fashion. Overall, the story is good and keeps your attention with plenty of legal maneuverings to consider. Overall, I found the book to be a bit long, and there were bits and pieces that had no bearing on the story which could have been left out, and there were also pieces left unclosed at the end of the story. That said, I would recommend the book. Excellent performance.

The discovery of a dead infant in an Amish barn shakes Lancaster County to its core. But the police investigation leads to a more shocking disclosure: circumstantial evidence suggests that 18-year-old Katie Fisher, an unmarried Amish woman believed to be the newborn's mother, took the child's life.

    Story

Save your time and money on this one. This audio book is 8+ hours long. The story is way toooooooooo long and is very boring. There are no twists or turns, just a long drawn out story, which isn't very interesting past the first chapter. The depiction of Amish life is incorrect and the narrator was as irritating as anyone could possibly be. When doing the voice of the 18 year old young woman, she talked like a little girl of 5 years old with a lisp, and a really bad German accent. No 18 year old young Amish woman would sound like that! It's annoying after one hour, but after 8, it's torture! Additionally, there's not much of a story line and there are things thrown into the book that pay no bearing at all on the story. The worst part is - wait for it - after 8 LONG HOURS of listening and forcing myself to finish listening to the entire thing - there is no ending! It's one of those weird endings that leaves it up to your imagination. Are you kidding me??? After listening to that narrator for 8 hours?? UGH. Spare yourself. Move on to another selection..... unless you feel you need to punish yourself for something.

A highly decorated captain in the U.S. Army, Luis Montalvan never backed down from a challenge during his two tours of duty in Iraq. After returning home, however, the pressures of his physical wounds, traumatic brain injury, and post-traumatic stress disorder began to take their toll. In constant physical pain, he soon found himself unable to climb a simple flight of stairs or face a bus ride to the VA hospital. He drank; he argued; he cut himself off from those he loved. Then Luis met Tuesday, a beautiful and sensitive golden retriever....

I was really looking forward to listening to this book. I was terribly disappointed. It was not at all what I expected. There is no real story here - just a loosely woven yarh around what is a very clinical outline and description of how service dogs (in particular, this one named Tuesday) are trained, and some facts about dog personalities. The narrator is incredibly monotone making an already boring book even worse. Save your time and money on this. It won't be what you are expecting, at all - sorry to say.

LAPD cop Scott James is not doing so well, not since a shocking nighttime assault by unidentified men killed his partner, Stephanie, nearly killed him, and left him enraged, ashamed, and ready to explode. He is unfit for duty - until he meets his new partner. Maggie is not doing so well, either. The German shepherd survived three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan sniffing explosives before she lost her handler to an IED and sniper attack, and her PTSD is as bad as Scott’s. They are each other’s last chance.
