On November 10, 2008, Dr. Eben Alexander was driven into coma by a disease so lethal that only 1 in 10,000,000 survive. Seven days later, he awakened with memories of a fantastic odyssey deep into another realm that were more real than this earthly one - memories that included meeting a deceased birth sister he had never known existed. Dr. Alexander deployed all his knowledge as a scientist to find out whether his mind could have played a trick on him. In its shutdown state, there was no way it could have.

Save your money and your time with this book. It is not at all what you would expect it to be from the title or the narrative about the book. It's more of an autobiography fromthis doctor - his career and family - and an explanation of what he recalls from deep within his psyche while being in a coma - and the physical and mental after-affects. NOWHERE in the book did he ever talk about the hereafter or having been there - only what his injured brain conjured up while he was asleep. And some of his descriptions are beyond ludicrous. I'm a religious person, but I had to force myself to listen to the entire thing. Just awful.

The discovery of a dead infant in an Amish barn shakes Lancaster County to its core. But the police investigation leads to a more shocking disclosure: circumstantial evidence suggests that 18-year-old Katie Fisher, an unmarried Amish woman believed to be the newborn's mother, took the child's life.

    Story

Save your time and money on this one. This audio book is 8+ hours long. The story is way toooooooooo long and is very boring. There are no twists or turns, just a long drawn out story, which isn't very interesting past the first chapter. The depiction of Amish life is incorrect and the narrator was as irritating as anyone could possibly be. When doing the voice of the 18 year old young woman, she talked like a little girl of 5 years old with a lisp, and a really bad German accent. No 18 year old young Amish woman would sound like that! It's annoying after one hour, but after 8, it's torture! Additionally, there's not much of a story line and there are things thrown into the book that pay no bearing at all on the story. The worst part is - wait for it - after 8 LONG HOURS of listening and forcing myself to finish listening to the entire thing - there is no ending! It's one of those weird endings that leaves it up to your imagination. Are you kidding me??? After listening to that narrator for 8 hours?? UGH. Spare yourself. Move on to another selection..... unless you feel you need to punish yourself for something.

A highly decorated captain in the U.S. Army, Luis Montalvan never backed down from a challenge during his two tours of duty in Iraq. After returning home, however, the pressures of his physical wounds, traumatic brain injury, and post-traumatic stress disorder began to take their toll. In constant physical pain, he soon found himself unable to climb a simple flight of stairs or face a bus ride to the VA hospital. He drank; he argued; he cut himself off from those he loved. Then Luis met Tuesday, a beautiful and sensitive golden retriever....

I was really looking forward to listening to this book. I was terribly disappointed. It was not at all what I expected. There is no real story here - just a loosely woven yarh around what is a very clinical outline and description of how service dogs (in particular, this one named Tuesday) are trained, and some facts about dog personalities. The narrator is incredibly monotone making an already boring book even worse. Save your time and money on this. It won't be what you are expecting, at all - sorry to say.

LAPD cop Scott James is not doing so well, not since a shocking nighttime assault by unidentified men killed his partner, Stephanie, nearly killed him, and left him enraged, ashamed, and ready to explode. He is unfit for duty - until he meets his new partner. Maggie is not doing so well, either. The German shepherd survived three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan sniffing explosives before she lost her handler to an IED and sniper attack, and her PTSD is as bad as Scott’s. They are each other’s last chance.

Predictable story. Easy listening for a beach or car ride. Nothing that makes you think or wonder what's next, but an enjoyable yarn. I wouldn't recommend it as a page turner, but it was light and entertaining.

Although some of the ideas is this book have psychological merit, the segments were obviously written before the age of technology that we are in now. No one has the ability to simply clean off their desk at the end of the day, or to do one task at a time with nothing else on their agenda. Those days are gone. Survival now depends on multi-tasking and the 8-hour work day no longer exists. Totally outdated. Save your money.

After his grandmother’s death, John Caldwell appreciates the sweet letters and cookie care packages her friend “Aunt Bee” sends during his tour of duty in Iraq. When he returns home, he decides to visit the elderly lady and thank her in person. “Aunt Bee” is no spinster in sensible shoes, however. She’s young, smart, kind, luscious Pheobe Hunnicut, and when John meets her face to face, her delicious cookies aren’t the only things he wants to sample.

I'm glad I only paid $3.00 for this book. The story was predictable from page 1 - a storyline like a made for TV Hallmark movie - sickeningly sweet, except for the one sex scene which was so overplayed. Life is not like that. What made it worse was the narrator was terrible. Over-pronouncing words and speaking in a slow and deliberate tone - like a librarian would do to a group of children at story hour. It was painful to listen to. The book was just okay. I don't recommend it.

Divorced from his own wife and carrying on halfheartedly with another man's, saddled with a bum knee and friends who make enemies redundant, Sully now has one new problem to cope with: a long-estranged son who is in imminent danger of following in his father's footsteps. With its sly and uproarious humor and a heart that embraces humanity's follies as well as its triumphs, Nobody's Fool is storytelling at its most generous.

OMG!!! I'm sorry I even had to give this disasater of a book one star to write a review of
it I love a small town story, but this is beyond awful. If you are having trouble falling asleep, give this one a listen. You'll be snoozing in no time! I tried listening in my car, but was afraid I'd fall asleep at the wheel!! Wish I could get my money back on this one. Couldn't even force myself to get through the first part. A BIG UGH (followed by a BIG YAWN).

I also received the wrong book. It's about a murder and missing man. I listened to about 1/4 of the book before I decided it had nothing to do with the story as advertisesd.
