A Tale of Two Cities is one of Charles Dickens's most exciting novels. Set against the backdrop of the French Revolution, it tells the story of a family threatened by the terrible events of the past. Doctor Manette was wrongly imprisoned in the Bastille for 18 years without trial by the aristocratic authorities.

If you could sum up A Tale of Two Cities in three words, what would they be?

    Interesting, educational, classic

    Any additional comments?

I was prejudiced in favor of this audio book prior to listening to it, because I had enjoyed reading it as a teenager, and again out-loud with my daughter for her AP Lit class…I do a lot of driving on my job, and it helps to pass the time

This Lovecraft classic is a must-have for every fan of classic terror. When a geologist leads an expedition to the Antarctic plateau, his aim is to find rock and plant specimens from deep within the continent. The barren landscape offers no evidence of any life form - until they stumble upon the ruins of a lost civilization. Strange fossils of creatures unknown to man lead the team deeper, where they find carved stones dating back millions of years. But it is their discovery of the terrifying city of the Old Ones that leads them to an encounter with an untold menace.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

I thought this book was incredibly boring and I have a hard time imagining who might enjoy it!

Would you ever listen to anything by H. P. Lovecraft again?

Doubtful! I might give something a try, but I certainly won't force myself to finish it, like I did with this book!

What about Edward Herrmann’s performance did you like?

I thought the narrator did as good a job as it was possible to do, considering the dry, dull, plodding story line.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from At the Mountains of Madness [Blackstone Edition]?

There were only a couple of paragraphs in the whole book that were in the least bit interesting. This could have been a short story written by a high school student if it had been cut down to those few paragraphs.

    Any additional comments?

There was really no plot and no character development, just endless descriptions of the surroundings.

This story could have been written by someone who had just watched an episode of CSI…but without any forensics, foreshadowing, intrigue, etc. The best feature of it was…it was free! Amateur story line...
