Within minutes of finishing the first book, I was listening to this one. Great author, great narrorator, great story, great sequell. I'm always afraid of sequells because they usually don't live up to the orginal, but this one was equally entertaining. My only complaint is the fact that I have to wait so long for the next book.

Drew Danner, a crime novelist with a house off L.A.'s storied Mulholland Drive, awakens in a hospital bed with a scar on his head and no memory of being found convulsing over his ex-fiancee's body the previous night. He was discovered holding a knife, her blood beneath his nails. He himself doesn't know whether he's guilty or innocent. To reconstruct the story, the writer must now become the protagonist, searching the corridors of his life and the city he loves.

This was my third book by Hurwitz. The Crime Writer keeps you guessing until the end, and it doesn't hurt that it is narrated by Scott Brick! I listen to several books a week; mostly thriller/mysteries, and I really enjoyed this one!

I don't think I've listened to a book narrated by Scott Brick that I didn't like. I enjoyed this book so much that I bought the second book in this series as soon as I finished this one!

In this first novel, we are introduced to suave, handsome Tom Ripley: a young striver, newly arrived in the heady world of Manhattan in the 1950s. A product of a broken home, branded a "sissy" by his dismissive Aunt Dottie, Ripley becomes enamored of the moneyed world of his new friend, Dickie Greenleaf. This fondness turns obsessive when Ripley is sent to Italy to bring back his libertine pal, but he grows enraged by Dickie's ambivalent feelings for Marge, a charming American dilettante.

With this anthology, best-selling author Brad Meltzer introduces 21 original stories from today’s most prominent mystery writers. In Laura Lippman’s "Waco 1982", a young reporter stuck with a seemingly mundane assignment on lost-and-found boxes unwittingly discovers a dark crime. In Joseph Finder’s "Heirloom", a scheming neighbor frightens the new couple on the block with an unnerving tale of buried treasure. In R. L. Stine’s "High Stakes", a man on his honeymoon gets drawn into a bizarre bet involving a coffin, a bet he may pay for with his life.

From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. The Pentagon has officially confirmed more than 150 of Kyles kills (the previous American record was 109), but it has declined to verify the astonishing total number for this book. Iraqi insurgents feared Kyle so much they named him al-Shaitan (“the devil”) and placed a bounty on his head. Kyle earned legendary status among his fellow SEALs, Marines, and U.S. Army soldiers, whom he protected with deadly accuracy from rooftops and stealth positions.

My husband read this book and raved about it, so I thought I would give it a chance. (In the interest of full disclosure, my husband has NEVER read a book through. Seriously. I read all the time and he just doesn't get it. He thinks that books are a waste of his time. He downloaded the book to his phone and read, not listened to, but read it in a matter of three days. I was so stunned that something kept his attention, that I had to check it out.) Unfortunately, it was not for me. However, I'm grateful that the book sparked an interest in reading in my husband that no other book has done before.

From one verteran to another, Thank you for your service sir, RIP.

I had read several of the other books in the series some time ago. I must have been at a different place at that time because I did not care for this book at all. I know it is a popular series and my negative review won't matter. It's not that the book or writing was terrible, it just wasn't for me. Maybe I got caugt up in the whole vampire scene several years ago, but I'm so over it now. I was thought I would try a different style of book, but I guess I will return to my mystery/thrillers.

Scott Brick is my favorite, so I may not be completely fair, but as usual, he did an excellent job with the story! I can't wait to try out others from Gregg Hurwitz!
