I have never been able to get interested in "Series" books before "Speaks the Nightbird". I am almost finished the second book of the series "The Queen of Bedlam". Believe it or not It is better than the first book. I am ready to purchase and download the third. The story line is new and refreshing. McCammon descriptions of the characters and surroundings makes is better than watching it on the big screen. A movie of these books could never do them justice, but it would be interesting to see who would play the lead character Mathew Corbet.
At the moment I believe there are only four books. I hope McCammon is in the process of writing the fifth book and it will be published soon.
Edoardo Ballerini's narration is perfect for this series. I am definitely going to check other books he has narrated.
The story started off well and caught my interest right from the beginning. Unfortunately that did not last long. I should have returned the book. The story focused so much on drug and alcohol abuse it became boring quickly. I ended up fast forwarding at the speed of 2 and sometimes 2.5 to find out what happened to the painting, which was the only part of the story that was of interest, and turned out to be a very small part. All of the characters were so flawed I could cared less what happened to them, most of all the main character.
Tartt's descriptions of the main character's use of drugs was good, but more information than I was interested in hearing.
The plot would have been much better if Tratt followed the painting rather than main character and his drugged up life and messed up friends.
Pittu narration was good considering the material he was presenting.
What a fascinating way to tell a story of how souls are picked up after the body has died. The spirit of Death follows a girl around in Germany during WW II picking up souls of people that have died around her, starting with her little brother. It is wonderful and thought provoking from beginning to the end.
I have a friend that highly recommended this book. I found it very depressing and sad.
I did not care for any of the characters. They all led very depressing and boring lives.
I only listen to the end trying to find out why my friend enjoy it. I never did
This book tells a true story about an unlikely group that came from behind with all odds against them only to pull off one of the greatest feats in the history of the US Olympics.
This is a wonderful fantasy and beautiful story. Very well written and narrated. I am looking for to Wecker's next book. I hope it is a continuation of the two main characters in the this book.
I love the story especially the ending. I could relate to all of the characters, having grown up in the time period and in the South. It is totally believable. I loved the ending!
There was more history than I needed to know. I almost quit listening. I am glad I kept with the book I learned a lot about the the body and why and how we are abusing it. The bottom line is "Diet and Exercise".
This is the second book by Kinsale I have listen to. I am hooked. The plots are similar but at the same time they are different enough to keep the audience wanting here more and listen to the end. I do not think anyone but Boulton could do theses stories justice. He gives a great performance.
Before finishing "My Sweet Folly" I downloaded another Kinsale book.
I have always heard about the "Underground Railroad" but never really took the time to understand it's history. This book is every good place to start. There should be a "Harriet Tubman" Day. She was as important to the freeing the slaves and the civil rights movement as Lincoln and Martin Luther King, I researched in hopes to find a movie about her. I could not find any. Harriet story would make a WONDERFUL movie. If done correctly it could walk away with all the Oscars. This is a must read book! The performance of the book was good, but as with most of the Audible books, I had tp change the speed to 1 1/2x from 1x
This has been an excellent series and I am in hopes that McCammon is working on book 5 and Audible will have it on the market soon. There are several lose ends that need to be addressed. With McCammon's books I can never predict what is going to happen. McCammon's writing style keeps the reader totally engrossed and surprised.
I do believe Matthew Corbett has been through enough violence. He should have a rest from extreme physical activity in the up coming episodes or he will not be in shape to function by the time he reaches 30 years old. He must have enough scares from his past encounters he might consider getting tattoos to disguise them.
