I was immediately caught up in the lives of the delightful characters of this book. The readers do a wonderful job of bringing them alive.
Of the three readers, I found one of the men very difficult to understand at the beginning, to the point it interfered with my enjoyment. The other man and the woman were not so difficult. Once I became accustomed to the accents, it did not bother me.
I found the stories fascinating, and Hosseini did a great job of bringing them all together. The world is getting smaller--and we may meet up again with people we knew years ago in another land.
Courtenay wrote a fascinating tale with wonderful characters. The reader does a wonderful job with the different voices. I had some problems getting into the book as the lives of the characters are so cruel and dismal during the first third. Those times were definitely not the "good old days." After that, I enjoyed every minute of the book. In fact, I am listening to the second book in the trilogy now.
I gave the book the 5 stars it deserves. However, this recording illustrates, again, that authors are not readers and should not try to be.
