After losing his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan, Cormoran Strike is barely scraping by as a private investigator. Then John Bristow walks through his door with an amazing story: his sister, the legendary supermodel Lula Landry, famously fell to her death a few months earlier. The police ruled it a suicide, but John refuses to believe that. The case plunges Strike into the world of multimillionaire beauties, rock-star boyfriends, and desperate designers, and it introduces him to every variety of pleasure, enticement, seduction, and delusion known to man.

Tracey says: "Unbelievable debut mystery set in London"
    "A pleasing read"

What did you love best about The Cuckoo's Calling?

The plot ,the characterization of the major players (including a contemporary detective in the "hercule poirot" mould) and the subtle humor that permeates throughout the book

What did you like best about this story?

Reasonably gripping and meticulously laid out plot

What does Robert Glenister bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Robert Glenister is fantastic and brings the different characters to life

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was fairly long to complete in one sitting

    Any additional comments?

A very different "mature" novel by Robert Galbraith (whom we now know as JK Rowling) and hopefully the first in a new series of novels featuring Detective Strike.

Drawing on a trove of sealed files and previously classified material, Whitey digs deep into the mind of James J. "Whitey" Bulger, the crime boss and killer who brought the FBI to its knees. He is an American original - a psychopath who fostered a following with a frightening mix of terror, deadly intimidation, and the deft touch of a politician who often helped a family in need meet their monthly rent. But the history shows that despite the early false myths portraying him as a Robin Hood figure, Whitey was a supreme narcissist, and everything was always about him.

    Paul says: "NOT Osama bin-Laden"
"Amazing story of a mob boss"

At Cold Mountain Penitentiary, the convicted killers on E Block await their turn to walk the Green Mile and keep a date with the electric chair. Paul Edgecombe has seen his share of oddities in his years working as a guard on the Mile, but he's never met anyone like John Coffey.

Orita says: "Both the book and the reader were just plain great"
    "Much superior to the movie."

Would you consider the audio edition of The Green Mile to be better than the print version?

Can't say, since I have not read the print version

What did you like best about this story?

Very good story, with sharply etched characters, based in the tumultuous period of the depression in America I.e. The thirties. Had watched the movie, hence knew the story, but was still amazed by the beauty of the same
