  • Brother Fish

    • UNABRIDGED (31 hrs and 49 mins)
    • By Bryce Courtenay
    • Narrated By Humphrey Bower

From the author of The Power of One comes an inspiring human drama of three lives brought together and changed forever by the extraordinary events of recent history. Inspired by real events, Bryce Courtenay's new novel tells the story of three people from vastly differing backgrounds. All they have in common is a tough beginning in life.

Rebecca says: "Not Just Another Fish Story - something special"
    "Great book but"

a little hard going for the first third or so. Went on a bit. Plus the end was strange after the slowness of the book there was so much happening at the end it seemed to have been written in a hurry to finish. A good read all the same.

  • Shadow Game: GhostWalkers, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs and 21 mins)
    • By Christine Feehan
    • Narrated By Tom Stechschulte
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

A man and woman possessed of telekinetic powers. She is the doctor. He is the experiment. What comes between them is a terrifying secret history that could save them or destroy them.

    Suzanne says: "GOOD ON STEROIDS"

I love the paranormal but this story, whilst having a lot of promise in the subject matter, was very poorly written and a total waste of time.

  • Deadly Intent

    • UNABRIDGED (16 hrs and 46 mins)
    • By Lynda La Plante
    • Narrated By Jilly Bond

Alexander Fitzpatrick is one of the most wanted men in the Western world. A Howard Marks character, but far more dangerous, his wealth, accrued through drug-trafficking, runs into millions. For the past ten years there has been no sighting of him. Has he gone to ground using an alias, or is he dead? When an ex-police officer from the murder squad is found shot in a dank squat, Ann Travis is pulled onto the case. As the body count rises and the investigation becomes ever more complex, suspicion falls on Fitzpatrick.

    Lesley says: "Fast Fun Read"
    "worst narrator"

Could not listen to this. This narrator should be reading for Mills & Boon - she is impossible to listen to and spoiled the story completely.

  • Salem's Lot

    • UNABRIDGED (17 hrs and 35 mins)
    • By Stephen King
    • Narrated By Ron McLarty

Thousands of miles away from the small township of Salem's Lot, two terrified people, a man and a boy, still share the secrets of those clapboard houses and tree-lined streets. They must return to Salem's Lot for a final confrontation with the unspeakable evil that lives on in the town.

Jennifer Woods says: "A great listen"
    "A great listen"

This classic story is written in typical Stephen King style and holds your interest throughout with an excellent ending. Narration is very well done also.

  • The Exorcist

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 33 mins)
    • By William Peter Blatty
    • Narrated By William Peter Blatty

Now in theaters, a re-release of the classic horror flick The Exorcist is promising to be scarier than ever. Restored by the film's director, William Friedkin, the new cut includes a full reel of previously unreleased footage, eliminated before the film's first release. To prepare for the frightening film, listen to the audiobook version, read by the author.

Parusski says: "Why did I wait so long to read the book?"

Very dated and boring story. Narration was excellent though.

  • The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

    • UNABRIDGED (18 hrs and 50 mins)
    • By Stieg Larsson
    • Narrated By Saul Reichlin

Forty years ago, Harriet Vanger disappeared from a family gathering. Her body was never found, yet her uncle is convinced it was murder - and that the killer is a member of his own family. He employs journalist Mikael Blomkvist and the tattooed, truculent computer hacker Lisbeth Salander to investigate. When the pair link Harriet's disappearance to a number of grotesque murders from forty years ago, they begin to unravel a dark and appalling family history.

    Joe says: "worthwhile"
    "Brilliant story"

A terrific read - and you must continue on to the next 2 books in the series. The detail and descriptions are essential to the 3 stories and most enjoyable. If you don't like details then stick to abridged books. So well written and original. Loved them. Do yourself a favour and get these books.

  • Bloodlist: The Vampire Files, Part 1

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 44 mins)
    • By P.N. Elrod
    • Narrated By Barrett Whitener

I've always had a weak spot for strange ladies. One very beautiful girl had even warned me that she was, get this, a vampire. But did I listen? No.

Joseph says: "A unique perspective on vampire novels."
    "It's OK"

Not a bad story but not brilliant by any means. The characters were good but there was certainly no nail-biting tension. The narration was excellent and suited the story well.

  • Vampire Academy: Vampire Academy, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 55 mins)
    • By Richelle Mead
    • Narrated By Stephanie Wolf
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

St. Vladimir's Academy isn't just any boarding school - it's a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They've been on the run, but now they're being dragged back to St. Vladimir's - the very place where they're most in danger.

Mitch says: "The Weakest Installment in a Fantastic Series"
    "Too juvenile"

I found the Twilight books to be quite compelling and very well written but found Vampire Academy to be a juvenile, boring and very 'girly' story. Thank goodness I have not bought any more of this series.

    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is summoned to deliver an evening lecture in the U.S. Capitol Building. Within minutes of his arrival, the night takes a bizarre turn. A disturbing object is discovered in the Capitol Building. The object is an ancient invitation, meant to usher its recipient into a long-lost world of hidden esoteric wisdom. And when Langdon's mentor is kidnapped, Langdon's only hope of saving him is to accept this invitation and follow wherever it leads him.

tess says: "Very typical of Dan Brown. Easy brilliance."
    "Very enjoyable story"

If you loved Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons then you will love this one also. An excellent and interesting plot which is beautifully written. Paul Michael does a terrific narration.

  • Lightning

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 58 mins)
    • By Dean Koontz
    • Narrated By Christopher Lane
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

A storm struck on the night Laura Shane was born, and there was a strangeness about the weather that people would remember for years. But even more mysterious was the blond-haired stranger who appeared out of nowhere - the man who saved Laura from a fatal delivery. Years later - after another bolt of lightning - the stranger returned.

Barry says: "One of Koontz' best, entirely enjoyable."
    "Narrator spoiled the story"

The narrator was very poor at accents and female voices - quite painful really. Would have preferred to have read the story instead.

  • Lessons in Heartbreak

    • UNABRIDGED (14 hrs and 4 mins)
    • By Cathy Kelly
    • Narrated By Aoife McMahon

Izzie Silver left the small Irish town of Tamarin behind her for life in New York. She's big, beautiful, and dreams of her own model agency for plus-sized women (what her grandmother would call "healthy" women). Life is good - but she's just broken one of her cardinal rules and fallen for a married man.

    Jennifer Woods says: "Bit boring"
    "Bit boring"

Not a bad story just run-of-the-mill. A few of the accents the narrator used were bad, the Australian accent was appalling. Nothing particularly interesting here. Something you can listen to without really listening.
