At once an incredible adventure narrative and a penetrating biographical portrait, The River of Doubt is the true story of Theodore Roosevelt's harrowing exploration of one of the most dangerous rivers on earth.

    Overall

I bought this book for an extra credit report for my son and ended up listening to it myself. I was thoroughly engrossed as I knew nothing of Roosevelt's interest in exploration. The author did a great job of informing the reader/listener of the lives and backgrounds of all the members of the expedition and the coarse of their lives after their return. The author was also very informative of the different cultures of Amazonian Indians and even of the evolution of plants and animals in the forest. I found this book very intriguing and would recommend it to anyone interested in History.

Wow, what a great story. Narrator was amazing. I think I lost five pounds listening to this book as I stayed on the elliptical way longer than expected each time I went to the gym. I couldn't stop listening. Just when you think you've hit the climax of the story, hold on, because you're in for more of a ride. Without a doubt, I will be listening to more from Mark Greaney and his gray man character.

Four people in a car, hoping to make Chicago by morning. An hour behind them, a man lies stabbed to death in an old pumping station. He was seen going in with two others, but he never came out. He has been executed, the knife work professional, the killers vanished. Within minutes, the police are notified. Within hours, the FBI descends, laying claim to the victim without ever saying who he was or why he was there. All Reacher wanted was a ride to Virginia. All he did was stick out his thumb. But he soon discovers he has hitched more than a ride.

Overall this was a good story, but it took a while to get moving - maybe about 2 hours into it. My attention waivered at times because descriptions of a town; or someone's lifestyle; etc. were way too extensive and seemed unnecessary for this story. This was my first Lee Child book. Reacher seems like an entertaining character - I'll try another Lee Child book to see if I like it any better.

    Story

Overall, this is a great story, fast-paced, and exciting - like the Da Vinci Code. This one makes you want to read/know more about Dante Alighieri and his master piece, The Divine Comedy. I love the historical references Dan Brown used in this book as he did in the Da Vinci Code. Because his descriptions were so great, I found myself looking up these places online just to see how spectacular they really were. Now I want to go to Italy and Turkey! Narration was great as well. This book kept me hooked from beginning to end.
