The mining ship El Cavador is far out from Earth, in the deeps of the Kuiper Belt, beyond Pluto. Other mining ships, and the families that live on them, are few and far between this far out. So when El Cavador’s telescopes pick up a fast-moving object coming in-system, it’s hard to know what to make of it. It’s massive and moving at a significant fraction of the speed of light.
El Cavador has other problems. Their systems are old and failing. The family is getting too big for the ship. There are claim-jumping corporate ships bringing Asteroid Belt tactics to the Kuiper Belt.

If you could sum up Earth Unaware in three words, what would they be?

Good but flawed.
Good story, but seems it has some scientific flaws.
- Everything is moving in space, slowing down doesn't make you any safer from space junk.,
-The formics couldn't project noise over all electromagnetic wavelengths and frequencies with out being noticed. I don't see a reason that the free miners or the Jukes couldn't have transmitted a morse code warning with full spectrum white light. Parabolic reflectors to aim the light at Earth wouldn't be that hard to make for someone like Vico or the Juke scientists.

Secundo alone in space

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

This was one of the better books I've listened to.

Will Henry was a rock of courage

What does Steven Boyer bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Steven Boyer was excellent.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Most of all, I loved the alliteration. It would have felt silly in any other kind of book, but it totally made sense that Will Henry would tell a story that way. He was so poised under pressure and so proper in his servitude that and he would never write directly how shaken he was. It was almost like the staccato repetition of consonants was his subconcious or "coded" way of expressing the sheer horror of his situation. Incredible work Mr. Yancy

Any additional comments?

I'm not a big fan of gore. But it was totally worth it for the perfect use of Alliteration. The Bard of Beowulf would be bowing before the accomplishment.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I like the point about slavery being better than human sacrifice. However, a population of hard working immigrants who valued freedom is what made America an innovative bastion of capitalism. Slavery couldn't have ended without capitalism to take its place. I doubt the immigrants would have come to America if they knew the land was occupied. Therefore Capitalism would have stalled and slavery would have returned.

The Hornblower Novels are great on their own, but Patrick Macnee makes them incredible. His narration is perfect. I dare say he is even better as a narrator than he was as "Mr Steed"

You've got to open your imagination to enjoy a good scifi thriller, but believing in Christian Suicide bombers stretches the imagination a bit too far. I applaud the respectful treatment of Catholics and Budists, but fundamentalist Christians deserve a little more respect than they're given in this book. Just because they are emotional and maybe even thickheaded sometimes, doesn't mean they are brainless sheep. Angry postmodern pseudo-Christians like Mcveigh blowing people up makes sense, but devout Evangelicals, no way. It just doesn't compute. Other than that though, it was a very good story.
