    Story

The author of 12 acclaimed books, Robert B. Reich is a Chancellor’s Professor of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley, and has served in three national administrations. While many blamed Wall Street for the financial meltdown, Aftershock points a finger at a national economy in which wealth is increasingly concentrated at the top - and where a grasping middle class simply does not have the resources to remain viable.

If you could sum up Aftershock in three words, what would they be?

    Fascinating, detailed perspective.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

We will have the same problem again if tough decisions aren't made soon.

Have you listened to any of Robert Reich’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I miss his appearances on Marketplace.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

This is worth taking a break as there is so much info. He does a great job of keeping it interesting.

    Any additional comments?

We need more information like this with historical perspective.

  • The Director

    Story

In David Ignatius' gripping new novel, spies don' t bother to steal information...they change it, permanently and invisibly. Graham Weber has been director of the CIA for less than a week when a Swiss kid in a dirty T-shirt walks into the American consulate in Hamburg and says the agency has been hacked, and he has a list of agents' names to prove it. This is the moment a CIA director most dreads. Weber isn' t sure where to turn until he meets a charismatic (and unstable) young man named James Morris who runs the Internet Operations Center.

I selected this because the story sounded good and I really like the narrator. It did not disappoint! Worth it.

In the late summer of a long-ago year, a killer arrived in a small city. His name was Alton Turner Blackwood, and in the space of a few months he brutally murdered four families. His savage spree ended only when he himself was killed by the last survivor of the last family, a 14-year-old boy. Half a continent away and two decades later, someone is murdering families again, re-creating in detail Blackwood’s crimes.

Would you ever listen to anything by Dean Koontz again?

I have enjoyed some other Koontz books, but this one missed the mark.

Would you listen to another book narrated by Steven Weber?

Weber was fine, but it was hard to tell at times if it was the story or the performance that needed help.

    Any additional comments?

I wanted this to be good, but the plot seemed a but transparent and the characters predicable.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

Don't bother this book is a waste of time.

What was most disappointing about Dean Koontz’s story?

It kept feeling like there was going to be something more and it never came. The character and story are incredibly boring. I've read others by Koontz and this was nothing like his other works.
