  • Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus: The Classic Guide to Understanding the Opposite Sex

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 28 mins)
    • By John Gray
    • Narrated By John Gray

Why is it so difficult for men and women to get along? In this phenomenally popular and effective work, Dr. John Gray illustrates how differences in communication styles, behavior, and emotional needs can drive the two sexes apart, and offers ways to help keep them together.

This is an excellent book, in spite of how cliche the title has become. But I STRONGLY recommend the abridged version.

I am usually 100% anti-abridgement, I hate them hate them hate them. I owned the abridgement of this book on cassette before I purchased the unabridged version. It was abridged by and is read by the author - so you can be certain it still has everything in it that he felt was essential. The unabridged version is very repetitive, which is fine when you are reading but may put you to sleep if you are listening!

In the early days of the Civil War, rumors of gold in the frozen Klondike brought hordes of newcomers to the Pacific Northwest. Anxious to compete, Russian prospectors commissioned inventor Leviticus Blue to create a great machine that could mine through Alaska’s ice. Thus was Dr. Blue’s Incredible Bone-Shaking Drill Engine born.

Jesse says: "Doesn't live up to potential"
    "loved it!"

The female narrator put me to sleep a few times, not a good thing when driving! But as I got into the story, that was no longer a problem...

In The Empty Envelope, Dink keeps getting envelopes in the mail addressed to "D. Duncan." But the letters inside all start with "Dear Doris" and don't make any sense! Josh and Ruth Rose think someone's playing a trick on Dink. But Dink is sure there's more to it than that, especially after Doris herself shows up and demands her letters!

    "My kids are hooked!"

I bought the first A-Z Mysteries volume for my 9 year old daughter... she loved it but the one who is really hooked is my 6 year old! He's listening to the first 4 volumes over an over, and reading the ones they had available at our local library. The best part is, I enjoy them with him - it's a simple read but entertaining.

  • James and the Giant Peach

    • UNABRIDGED (2 hrs and 42 mins)
    • By Roald Dahl
    • Narrated By Jeremy Irons

When James Henry Trotter accidentally drops some magic crystals by the old peach tree, strange things start to happen. The peach at the top of the tree begins to grow, and before long it's as big as a house. Then James discovers a secret entranceway into the fruit, and when he crawls inside, he meets a bunch of marvelous oversized friends: Old-Green-Grasshopper, Centipede, Ladybug, Miss Spider, and more.

Charles says: "Fun for all ages!"
    "A Classic Adventure"

I have been reading the print version of this book to my 6-year-old daughter and she loves it. It's quite fantastical.. but the main reason I would recommend it is because it gives an incomparable opening to speak frankly with your children about drugs. "Do you really think it would be okay to accept magic crystals from a stranger?"
