"A great way to learn about some aviation history."
I enjoyed listening to this book. The author does a great job of narration. I found her voice to be perfect for the story. At times, I found myself getting a little confused since she did jump around in her timeline. Even with this, I came away with a sense of awe in what we have accomplished in the development of our spy planes. I had the chance to live on Kadena Air Force base in the early 80's and found the author's information about what went on there fascinating. The book also gives en explanation of the Roswell incident that I had not heard before. Definitely worth the time it takes to listen to.
"nice narravtive of Navy SEAL training"
Like many others may have done, I downloaded this just after OBL was killed to find out more about the men who carried out that mission. I usually enjoy hearing books read by their authors but Mr. Greitens voice seems 'dry' to me and does take a little getting used to.
The story began slowly and I almost stopped listening but I am glad I continued. Mr Greitens descriptions of the people he encountered even before he joined the Navy are one of my favorite parts of the book. His narration of his SEAL training helps you appreciate how difficult the whole course is (without actually participating yourself). I love some of the instructor stories, especially the one about the hokey-pokey which bring a bit of humor into the mox
I enjoyed hearing that a normal kid grew up to be not only a Rhodes scholar but also a member of one of our nation's elite military units. The most refreshing part of the story is hearing how Mr. Greitens has used his talents to help others after leaving the Navy.
I gave this 4 stars because I felt the story moved too slowly at times and because of the voice performance. Overall I am very glad I decided to listen to this book.
"Great words of encouragement for anyone!"
I like this book because it is filled with words of encouragement. I feel that Pastor Joel does a good job of reading his book to you. I suppose that one criticism could be that this book is too positive and does not take into account the real world. I disagree - Pastor Joel helps you adjust your mind so that you can get through those bad times and not let others 'bad attitudes' put a damper on your day. I am glad I got this one.
"A complete story of the life of Marie Antoinette"
I have read the hard copy of this book a few times and felt silly for downloading the audible version (at first that is). I enjoyed hearing the story so much. Donada Peters gives a wonderful voice to this book. Since I have never studied French, I was not sure about some of the proununciations which the narrator smoothed through nicely. The author gives quite a bit of detail I never knew about Marie Antoinette and the time she lived in. Even though I knew how the story would end, I found myself very sad at the conclusion of the book. An enjoyable listen that I will listen to again.
"A Pleasant Surprise!"
I bought this audiobook based on a 'recommendation' email from audible.com and thoroughly enjoyed it. I learned so much about James Garfield and the state of science at that time. I believe the author does a great job of describing the inner workings of the devices of Alexander Graham Bell without drowning you in detail. I am left wondering how the course of our country may have been different had 'germ theory' been more widely accepted at that time. The assassin was menatlly ill and hearing how he went through life was enlightening. I do not remember learning very much about this part of our history while in school. The narrator, Paul Michael, does a great job with the material. I will certainly be listening to this audiobook again.
"Great adaptation for a fan of the book to have"
I was nervous about this title when I downloaded it from Audible. As a fan of the books who reads them at least once a year, I can say that this dramatized version was very well done. Yes parts of the books have been removed and certain lines were changed but the performances from the actors help you to forget this. This dramatization is a great way to introduce the story to younger kids who may not want to 'read' a book this long. Worth every penny.
