Miranda Puckett has failed at every job she’s ever had. Her mother just wants her to come home, join the family law firm, and settle down with Jason, the perfect lawyer boyfriend. But when Jason turns out to be a lying cheater, Miranda seizes on a job that gets her out of town: long-distance vampire transportation. Her first assignment is to drive vampire Collin Sutherland from Washington to sleepy Half Moon Hollow without incident—no small feat for a woman whom trouble seems to follow like a faithful hound dog!

    Story
What disappointed you about Driving Mr. Dead?

Despite Molly Harper's enjoyable style of writing, this particular book is poorly crafted. The characters were formulaic, poorly drawn and inconsistent in a way that detracts from the story. This is the weakest Molly Harper book I've listened to and I was really disappointed in the non-plot and weak characterizations. The weaknesses were enough so I'd stop really listening to her often-enjoyable prose style and think instead about those problems instead. Since one is already suspending disbelief to listen to a vampire story, it made it hard to get into the book. This felt like a writing group exercise that shouldn't have made it to publication (or that I shouldn't have parted with a credit to hear).

Has Driving Mr. Dead turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, but I'll be more careful about my next Molly Harper choice.

Did Amanda Ronconi do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

She was OK and lively with the material she had. You could characters apart.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Irritation. Molly Harper can and has done a lot better. This story felt like something she was churning out to meet a deadline, not something crafted. Some of her delightful delivery and humor comes through but the effect is greatly diminished by the poor crafting of the story.

    Any additional comments?

I've heartily enjoyed several of Molly Harper's books and hope readers will try those first. The nicest thing I can say is don't judge all of her work by this one.
