  • Lord Hornblower

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 29 mins)
    • By C. S. Forester
    • Narrated By Christian Rodska
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

The Admiral's face was grim as he gave Commodore Hornblower his orders. The situation was critical: mutiny was an infection that could spread through the fleet like the plague and, furthermore, the crew were threatening to go over to the French.

Jean says: "Old fashion story telling"
    "Good Read"
Would you consider the audio edition of Lord Hornblower to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print edition, I have only listened to the series.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

The pllot was very good. However the part where he leads the rebellion was far fetched.

What does Christian Rodska bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Christian Rodska was perfect for this read.

  • Dear Leader: Poet, Spy, Escapee - A Look inside North Korea

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 43 mins)
    • By Jang Jin-sung
    • Narrated By Daniel York

As North Korea's State Poet Laureate, Jang Jin-sung led a charmed life. With food provisions (even as the country suffered through its great famine), a travel pass, access to strictly censored information, and audiences with Kim Jong-il himself, his life in Pyongyang seemed safe and secure. But this privileged existence was about to be shattered. When a strictly forbidden magazine he lent to a friend goes missing, Jang Jin-sung must flee for his life.

David says: "Stop browsing and get this Book"
    "Excellent View into North Korea"
Where does Dear Leader rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is an excellent book. I was throughly entertained. I have always wondered how life is inside North Korea.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dear Leader?

I loved the escape across the River that separates China from North Korea.

What about Daniel York’s performance did you like?

    Good performance.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I listened to this book on my way back and forth to work.

  • Swan Song

    • UNABRIDGED (34 hrs and 22 mins)
    • By Robert McCammon
    • Narrated By Tom Stechschulte
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Facing down an unprecedented malevolent enemy, the government responds with a nuclear attack. America as it was is gone forever, and now every citizen - from the President of the United States to the homeless on the streets of New York City - will fight for survival. In a wasteland born of rage and fear, populated by monstrous creatures and marauding armies, earth's last survivors have been drawn into the final battle between good and evil, that will decide the fate of humanity.

Amanda says: "Simply an Amazing Story"
"Started strong, but slowly fizzled out."
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The first half of the book was very interesting, however as it went on, the characters became more and more one dimensional. The plot became more pedestrian and silly. If you want good post apaptoliptic writing and plot stick with Steven King's The Stand.

What was most disappointing about Robert McCammon’s story?

The most disappointing part of the book is that once you become invested in the plot you are forced to listen even as the story becomes more and more mundane.

What about Tom Stechschulte’s performance did you like?

I really only kept listening because the narrator was so good.

Do you think Swan Song needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

  • A Ship of the Line

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 25 mins)
    • By C. S. Forester
    • Narrated By Christian Rodska

Her Majesty's ship Sutherland is a humdrum ship of the line. But in command is none other than the heroic Captain Hornblower and, with his crew from the Lydia, he looks set to take on commando raids, hurricanes at sea, and Napoleons's gun batteries.

    Rollin says: "Wonderful Hornblower"
    "Great Read!"
What did you love best about A Ship of the Line?

A ship of the line is a wonderful book. I have read all but one of the Hornblower series of books. I will be reading the final one when I get my next credit. Any of the Hornblower series is is a great read. And Christian Rodska is a fantastic reader. He is able to invest himself to each character in the novel. His ability to read for a woman, old man or young child is fascinating. I never stop to think that this is the same person He is always able to keep in character through many lines of dialog.
What I like about Hornblower is that he does have some faults. He is human character with many of the same insecurities as all of us. However his mental abilities put him above most of the other characters in the book. I find it enjoyable to read a book where loyalty to duty and country are rewarded. You would not be disappointed if you purchased this book, nor any of the other Hornblower series.
