From the day she arrives at quiet Mica High in a burst of color and sound, the hallways hum with the murmur of "Stargirl, Stargirl." She captures Leo Borlock's heart with just one smile. She sparks a school-spirit revolution with just one cheer. The students of Mica High are enchanted. Then they turn on her.

Sorry, the narration by the late Mr. Ritter was disappointing, to be sure. It sounded like he was reading a newspaper. I've done a much better version in my classroom. What a bummer. Great story, "must" read - but not a "must" listen.

One evening, Danny, an East End cockney who works as a garage mechanic, takes his girlfriend up to the West End to celebrate their engagement. He crosses the path of Spencer Craig, a West End barrister tipped to be the youngest Queen's Counsel of his generation. A few hours later Danny is arrested for murder and later is sentenced to 22 years in prison.

No disappointment, here. A great "read". Nicely told by the reader, particularly the use of various accents. Easily followed, a few twists and turns. I was trying to "figure out" how it would resolve itself. Didn't expect this, though. Highly recommended.

Since its publication over forty years ago, this heartwarming tale of a boy and his dogs has touched millions. A tale of adventure, special friendship and coming-of-age, Where the Red Fern Grows makes for delightful listening. This unabridged production, featuring a moving performance by Anthony Heald, brings this enduring classic to life and makes a powerful story even more unforgettable.

The narration brings out the brilliance of this amazing story. My Gr. 8's were riveted. Yes, Gr. 8's. A must-buy if you want to use this as a shared reading for students. I'll be using this every year.

Catherine, a 12-year-old girl with big responsibilities, loves her autistic younger brother David and makes lists of rules she thinks will help him get by. But she often feels that her parents, focused on special care for David, forget that she exists, too.

I use this for a read-aloud each year to my Grade 8's. Such important messages in this book. Having taught special needs students before, this connects with me deeply to the point that I'm able to share my own experiences with kids like David and Jason. I find that I like to actually read it myself because I emphasize Jason's "touching" in his binder of words as an effect. The book is on my Mac for my struggling readers to enjoy during the year. You must read this - and get this - if you teach middle-schoolers.

Each week, when Sports Illustrated's 21 million readers open up their magazine, many turn right to the last page - because that's where to find SI's most popular feature: the Life of Reilly column, written by best-selling author Rick Reilly. This new collection includes 100 of Reilly's favorite columns from the last six years, along with an introduction by Lance Armstrong.

I probably should have chosen another book for my first listen on Audible. Some of the stories were moving and entertaining; but after a while, they begin to sound the same. I would have been happy with his top 30 columns. I'm on the 2nd half of the download (#55), and I think I've had enough for now.
