"I heart Gaskell."
I love this book and always have. This is a lovely rendering of it. If you are new to Gaskell, please don't hesitate.
"Best series since Lord of the Rings."
Or Harry Potter. Or any other of several gazillion YA series...but the point is, this is some good fun. Do it. You won't be sorry.
"Big Fat Meh."
Why do I keep telling myself that I can recreate the Stephen King experience I had when I was 19? There's a reason why we describe ourselves as young and stupid.
"History rocks!!"
I first read this book years ago. This story is creepy, fascinating, amazing, horrifying and TRUE!! Highly recommend.
"Not much I can say to add to the crowd of reviews."
I love this story, love the characters, highly, highly recommend. Not a huge fan of the narrator, but she's ok. I only wish it was a 6 book series..I would buy them all.
"Nearly great..!"
This is a great story with great characters. It misses the overall 'great' mark by relying on too many literay cliches and coincidences. Overall, I really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it. I have always been intrigued by this part of the world (Nova Scotia) and really wish the author had spent more time on the setting.
"Meh...."
I wanted to re-read this because I read it years ago and couldn't really remember any details. It's sort of intriguing, but OY, VEY!!! All the narrative tension could have been released by some plain old communication. When you spend 3/4 of the book wanting to smack the characters so they snap out of their idiocy...It's an ok book with an ok story but I would recommend checking it out of the library for free. Don't pay for it.
"Lovely."
I read Little Women about 500 times in my childhood/adolescence. It was my 'go to' alternate universe to escape from the world I actually lived in. This book fleshes out that alternate universe in such a rich, sophisticated way. Highly recommend. ps...I really hate this format for reviews. I don't need your help deciding what to say, k? thanks.
"OMG...I can't believe Colin Firth just read...."
a book to me. And a good book, too. Colin Firth + good book = Cannot. Go. Wrong.
"This is why I go after the Booker Prize winners."
I loved this book. It's beautifully written and completely immerses the reader into its world. I didn't want it to end. Highly recommend!
