    I was worried about the narration from the reviews, but found it more than adequate.

    The start of the story was a little slow, and I was wondering if it was going to be the average redemption story. But the naval/marine simultaneous engagement and great character development was totally worth it. I also liked the nod to Prince Roger.

    Because I am a total nerd, I am going to write a Star Frontiers adventure based around this book.

But their protective shield is not as impenetrable as they think. Somea, angry and outraged by the treatment of her family and friends, throws a stone at the shield, putting all her rage behind it. She is amazed when it sails unrestricted through the barrier and knocks a magician unconscious.

    I would have loved this book as an early teenager. It's well written, and well narrated. DEFINITELY a children's story though. This is the reason that I have never read any of the Harry Potter series. I like edgier, more adult books. All in all, it's a very NICE story though. Nothing very bad happens. I wouldn't buy the next two.
