Amelia Peabody inherited two things from her father: a considerable fortune and an unbendable will. The first allowed her to indulge in her life's passion. Without the second, the mummy's curse would have made corpses of them all.

    "Too slow"
    Overall

This book was entirely too slow and difficult to follow. The reader may have contributed to this fact. I did not like her accent. I would not listen to other books by this author.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

    "Spectacular"

My wife and I listened to this book on a long drive to FL and back. I chose it for her and she loved it. I thought it was a "chick" book but I liked it as much as she did. You have to listen to this one especially if you are from the South and are over 55.

In the spring of 1974, Calliope Stephanides, a student at a girls' school in Grosse Pointe, finds herself drawn to a chain-smoking, strawberry-blonde classmate with a gift for acting. The passion that furtively develops between them - along with Callie's failure to develop physically - leads Callie to suspect that she is not like other girls. In fact, she is not really a girl at all.

Christopher Allen walker says: "Great Pulitzer Winning novel!"
    "Outstanding"
    Overall

I would have not listened to this book if I had not read written reviews. The author does a brilliant job in changing periods of time without losing the listener. The subject matter is not the most important part of the story. The story is fascinating. The reader is easy to understand and was fabulous. This is a must listen.
