In a locked Honolulu office building, three men are found dead with no sign of struggle except for the ultrafine, razor-sharp cuts covering their bodies. The only clue left behind is a tiny bladed robot, nearly invisible to the human eye. In the lush forests of Oahu, groundbreaking technology has ushered in a revolutionary era of biological prospecting. Trillions of microorganisms, tens of thousands of bacteria species, are being discovered; they are feeding a search for priceless drugs and applications on a scale beyond anything previously imagined.

In this riveting landmark autobiography, which reads like a novel, Academy Award and Emmy winner Louis Gossett, Jr., masterfully transports us to 1840s New York; Washington, D.C.; and Louisiana to experience the kidnapping and 12 years of bondage of Solomon Northup, a free man of color. Twelve Years a Slave, published in 1853, was an immediate bombshell in the national debate over slavery leading up to the Civil War.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No. This may be the only instance in which I thought a movie was better than the book that it emulated.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

While the tone and tenor was meant to relate to the era of which the book was written, it caused the book to seem overly long and slow.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

    Have done it.

Not far from Washington, D.C., in a wooded area of Northern Virginia, a small house at the end of a gravel road serves a secret purpose. With its sophisticated security apparatus and hidden miniaturized cameras, it is being used by the FBI to interview one of the most important witnesses the agency has ever had, a young woman with an incredible story to tell. But a few people know about the secret meeting. And for them, a violent drama is about to begin.

What did you like best about Saving Faith? What did you like least?

It delves into the inner workings of DC and that was interesting and enjoyable

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Baldacci put a lot more unnecessary drama and "self thinking" of the the characters of this book than usual. The protagonist's persona was actually redundantly developed to the point that it was tiresome.

What didn’t you like about Michael Kramer’s performance?

He is probably the worst narrator to whom I have listened....his tone implies boredom and I found that it was annoying and detracted from the content

Do you think Saving Faith needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

    no

How could the performance have been better?

Dick sounded as bored as the book was boring

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    None

    Any additional comments?

Childs needs to let Reacher exit left....his themes and his reacher character have become redundant and predictable.....He has joined Tom Clancy in the worn out writers club....

Would you try another book from James Patterson and Marshall Karp and/or Edoardo Ballerini and Jay Snyder ?

This book was so shallow and predictable but yet so completely unrealistic...This was a sophmoric "effort".....

What could James Patterson and Marshall Karp have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

go back to the basic and do his own writing if he hasn't forgotten his inspiration.

What aspect of Edoardo Ballerini and Jay Snyder ’s performance would you have changed?

    Make it realistic

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

    None

Virgil Flowers kicked around for a while before joining the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. First it was the army and the military police, then the police in St. Paul, and finally Lucas Davenport brought him into the BCA, promising him, "We'll only give you the hard stuff." He's been doing the hard stuff for three years now, but never anything like this.

An illegal immigrant is killed in a hit-and-run on a frozen mountain road in the town of Fairview, Colorado. No one is prosecuted for his death and his case is quietly forgotten. Six months later another illegal makes a treacherous run across the border, barely escaping with her life. She finds work as a maid and, secretly, begins to investigate the death of her father. But she isn't a maid, and she's not Mexican.

    David says: "Anxiously Awaited"
    "Deathly slow"
    Overall

The story was far from original. There was no real mystery. The only suspense was why the author took such a tedious path of explaining the ending which was actually the first chapter. I only completed the "listening" because I thought that with all the good ratings, the best was yet to come.
