"Boring"
I love adventure books, but frankly found this one boring. In the middle of the book the author mentioned how the newspapers summarize the event: planes downed, a few people live, and a rescue is in the works. That pretty much summarizes the story.
"Entertaining"
I'm not sure it lived up to the rave reviews for me, but if you are looking for an easy listen, go for it. It is entertaining, a little sad. I found the reader ( author) to sound a little to dumb to be true, but I liked it.
"Stick with it, especially if you've been Catholic"
At first I thought this was a trite story about a pedophile priest, but I stuck with it and found the book to be much more profound. I am a 57 year old lapsed Catholic, who went to Catholic school for 12 years, so I could definitely relate to a lot. The family stuff relationships added richness to this book, and I found it engrossing.
"Will anything ever happen?"
I listened to this for my book club. My goal was to keep going, to see if anything would happen. It didn't. I quit when I was 85% done, bored to tears.
The book club assessment was unanimous. Two of us in the book club listened to it, four read it. None of the six of us could finish it. We have never had a book we so disliked or were bored by, and we read all kinds of books, including some pretty heavy non fiction.
The reader ( the author) was good, which reduced the pain.
"Will it ever end"
A great thriller, well read and acted, but the book should have been abridged. I could/would have skimmed through parts if I were reading the book, but this isn't easy to do when you are listening.
My husband and I listened to this on a road trip, and the first half was great. My husband gave up after 16 hours.
I give it 4 stars because the story and reader were good, but would recommend it only to those that like lots of description and words, not those who like suspense and get eager to know how it will end!
"Beautifly written, wonderfully read"
Touching story of conjoined twins living in a small Canadian town. Great readers. Definitely the best book I've listened to on audible.
