Always leave a little salt on the bread. Ikey Solomon's favorite saying is also his way of doing business, and in the business of thieving he's very successful indeed. Ikey's partner in crime is his mistress, the forthright Mary Abacus, until misfortune befalls them. They are parted and each must make the harsh journey from thriving nineteenth century London to the convict settlement of Van Diemen's Land.

Life is not easy for the poor relations of England’s upper crust, but fate and clever schemes bring them together. Lady Fortescue and Colonel Sandhurst hatch a plan: What if they were to transform her decrepit Bond Street home into a posh hotel, offering their guests the pleasure of being waited upon by nobility? With the help of other down-and-out aristocrats, they do just that, and London’s newest hotel, The Poor Relation, is born. The establishment is an immediate hit with London’s most illustrious citizens, save the Duke of Rowcester....

Would you listen to Lady Fortescue Steps Out again? Why?

No. It was a delightful, light tale - no need to do it again.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Harriett. She's a fine heroine - plucky, bright and rising above hard times.

What about Davina Porter’s performance did you like?

She can read anything and be the very best at it. This is no exception.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

A ragtag bunch of down-on-their-luck characters with pluck and wit to make their way.
