New York Times best-selling author Diana Gabaldon enchanted scores of fans with Outlander, her electrifying historical saga set in 18th-century Scotland. Now this sequel sweeps listeners back into the past as Claire relates more of her perilous sojourn there with her Scottish warrior husband, James Fraser. Twenty years after her strange journey back in time, Claire has returned to Scotland with her daughter, determined to share with her the secret she has harbored since her time travel.

Would you consider the audio edition of Dragonfly in Amber to be better than the print version?

Yes! The voice of Jamie done by Davina Porter is excellent.

This is a great continuation to Outlander. With as many hours as the series takes to listen to, you would think that eventually one would tire of the story, but on the contrary, I can't get enough!

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

If you could sum up Outlander in three words, what would they be?

    Creative, enriching, captivating

What does Davina Porter bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She makes the characters come alive! The distinction between Claire's voice and Jamie's voice is unreal. I never get them confused, which is sometimes a problem with other narrators. Or, a male does the female's voice, and it just sounds like a man doing a really bad imitation of a whiny female.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh. The evolution of the two characters seemed so plausible that, from the beginning, you knew they were going to make a great couple. Their conversations and 'learning moments' made me laugh out loud several times.

This is one of the richest books I have ever experienced! It's rich in storyline, character development and writing style. Diana Gabaldon claims on her website that she started writing the series in an attempt to better her writing skills but I am absolutely skeptical. The vivid imagery and dialogue in this book are concise, but not simple and boring. Ms. Gabaldon has a talent for choosing perfect descriptives. I feel that listening to her books has enrichened my vocabulary and speech patterns...Not to mention I have been thoroughly entertained! I'm a sucker for physical, brutish male heroes who are intelligent and formally educated!
