Atlanta would be a nice place to live, if it weren't for the magic. When the magic is up, rogue mages cast their spells and monsters appear, while guns refuse to fire and cars fail to start. But then technology returns, and the magic recedes as unpredictably as it arose, leaving all kinds of paranormal problems in its wake.

Nevery finds that interesting, and he takes Conn as his apprentice on the provision that the boy find a locus stone of his own.

I tried, I really did. I listen to this as long as I could. A little over an hour. It just didn't grab me. Oh heck, it was mindless drivel. I saw no point to this story, I saw no story at all.

I have read several of Tad Williams books and have enjoyed them. I listened to this whole series and it was just Ok. It starts out very slow, and plugs along. If you buy the first book, listen to it before you buy any of the others. I got this whole series before I listened to it,because I had enjoyed the authors prior works. I will not do that again. I would not have bought this book if I had listened to the first book before buying.

But now that boundary line is moving outward, threatening to engulf the northernmost land in which humans still live - the kingdom of Southmarch.
